Faulty PS3 and Sale of Goods Act 1979

My PS3 got The YLOD today after updating to the newest firmwire (4,20 i think). it is a phat 40gb ps3. it got it around December of 2008. its nearly four years old and obviously will be out of warranty.
However i was reading a article about the Sale of Goods Act 1979. a console like the ps3 should last 5-8 years with reasonable usage (played like 7 games in the 4 years of having it, havnt play more than 4 times a month) so not much tbh.

heres the link: http://whatconsumer.co.uk/faulty-playstation-3/

it says that i could get it fixed or replaced for free which would be brilliant. i have the receipts and all to prove date of purchase etc,

SO SHOULD I? please, i reply would be nice

You can try it, but I seriously doubt you will have any luck.

4yrs for this item with this type of fault will fall quite easily into the expected and accepted margin of error for longevity of use.

Add to that the fact that you would most likely have to argue your case regarding use of item, specifically placement of it to allow for adequate free air flow etc.

Personally I would say you are flogging a dead horse, and trust me, I have stood toe to toe with more than one company (and won) who tried to tell me there was nothing I could do lol

Give it a go by all means, but do not get your hopes up

My ps3 is still going strong. I'm running rogero 4.30 2.03 and it's been 4 years. The only problem i got with it was that the blu-ray wont spin (it was in 2011, because the power went out while i was playing bd intensive game). Other than that, no issues at all. I do the maintenance of it every 3 months to clean the dust and replace the thermal paste every 6 months :D

Doesn't hurt to try...you should go for it....just be consistent with it and they will most likely hook you up
