US firefighters shot dead at blaze in Webster, New York

Another US shooting and so close to Christmas.

Two volunteer firefighters have been shot dead and two injured while responding to an emergency call in the town of Webster in New York state.

It appears the four were fired upon as they arrived at the scene of a fire early on Monday morning.

The blaze broke out just before 06:00 local time (11:00 GMT) and the shooting reportedly prevented firefighters putting it out for several hours.

A gunman has been found dead at the scene, local police say.

"Upon arrival of the first... engine company and some firefighters in their personal vehicles, they underwent gunfire from a location unknown," Webster's Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier told reporters.

The two dead firefighters were named by police as Tomasz Kaczowka and Mike Chiapperini.

An off-duty policeman who was driving by the scene at the time received shrapnel wounds and was also being treated, Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering told reporters.

Police spokesmen said the area was "an active crime scene" but that no more shooters were believed to be present.

Now we can all talk about gun control until the moon turns to cheese, but i think the most serious problem in America is the Mental Health system, these people that do these things or have the tendencies, obviously are not getting the correct care and attention that is needed, to prevent them from doing such things.

Sorry to say this, but as an 'outside' observer...America is fu @ked . Even if America banned all guns tomorrow, there are still hundreds of millions of them 'in circulation'. All it would mean is it costs some nutbar $50 instead of $40 for a gun.

The healthcare/insurance system in the US, which could help those with mental illnesses, is so corrupt and expensive that the average household can barely afford it. Those who are poor will never afford it.

The political system is aimed at helping the rich get richer by screwing over those with less. I know Obama wants to change that but he can't. Those with money, control and corrupt law making through lobbying and donations and they don't care if a few firefighters get shot to death. That is not going to change soon either.

The US Military is spending HUGE amounts of money engaging in wars in countries they have no business being in. That money could save thousands of American lives on US soil, but they want to spend it killing thousands of 'foreigners' in their own countries.

My apologies to all U.S. based PS3HAX members. As a European in a country with good healthcare and strong gun laws, i think most of us feel this way about the U.S at the moment. It's a shame because you guys led the world! Now, the 1% at the top of your country are deliberately raping the other 99% for their own profit.

What wars are we in that we shouldn't be in? I can name one, Iraq. But it's no longer a war. Let me clue you in on something, if you're a country that is a member of the UN then you're every bit as guilty. There's also British, Canadian, and Australian troops dying right along side ours. There is an empire that exists that's made up of English speaking predominately Caucasian countries. You think Tony Blair is any different than George Bush or Julia Gillard? I can tell you they're not. The US is just the figure head. That's all. When NATO dropped those bombs on Yugoslavia, that was a combined effort. Oh yeah, not to mention there was already a war going on. How many World Wars has the United States started?

Are US soldiers in Afghanistan? Are your Special Forces in Egypt and Syria? Why did the US invade Korea? Why did they invade Veitnam? Has the US 'won' any of those wars?...no...but a lot of money got spent...

The US military is led by politicians who gain financially from wars or international conflicts happening. If they aren't happening let's send them in anyway..namely Iraq. Was the war in Iraq based on 'defeating' Saddam Hussein or about stripping the country of it's oil and assets? You tell me.

Oh, and Tony Blair was voted out years ago...

You forgot to mention how America funds and supplies weapons to the terrorist state of Israel.

Apparently nobody is in Syria. Define 'won' those wars. The US didn't have an objective to win. They only had an objective to stop the spread of communism. If you look at overall casualties from both sides and the amount of democratic countries with a McDonalds today, then I would say yes, they won. If you're talking about WWI or II then I would say the US also won those.

Iraq has oil? I thought it was all in Saudia Arabia and Kuwait. You wanna know the real reason the US went to Iraq? It's because Saddam tried to assassinate George Bush Sr. in 1993 and then his idiot son was voted in with a grudge. You don't have to be a genius to figure that out.

The US spent 3 trillion dollars in Iraq and we didn't get any oil contrary to your beliefs. I don't see how that's a financial gain. We just had an idiot for a president. But then, nobody here will deny that.

Tony Blair, David Cameron...it's all the same team.

You already know I didn't mention that because I don't agree with the statement. What Israel does is tame compared to what the US or any other world power would do if countries had terrorists groups fire rockets into their country. Israel is policed more than any other country in the world.

I had to laugh when bush stated `your either with us or with the terrorists`seeing as it was rumoured to be his party that had donated to the irish republican army.

Did the US deliberatley destabilise the region and then put pressure on OPEC to raise oil prices? Has petrol/gas at the pump ever cost more? Why does it cost so much now? Are we paying the workers more? Absolutely not...wake up...

Reading your replies, you obviously disagree with me on your Military action but seeing as you haven't objected to my other points you agree with them? Your gun laws are ridiculous. Your health insurance system is a scam. etc.etc.

The gun law could have been a great idea, but ... it is to late.
