demonstration mode?
A friend of mine purchased a ps3 off of craigslist to replace his old one that died (rest in peace). When he powered it on, it said it was in demonstration mode and everything was pretty much locked. I told him to give me a shot and see what I could do. I've never heard of this and thought it might have been a hard drive issue. After research, I guess the person he bought it from must have stolen it or something.
I've looked online for a few hours. Googled away and was pointed to this forum many times. I downloaded ps3mfw builder 0.2.1 and checked the "patch firmware for installation shop/promo unit" but the program ends up crashing with a fatal error. My main question is, is there a fix to get out of demo mode? Will I have to use a modded firmware no matter what? I think the guy isn't interested in backup games or anything like that, just a normal ps3 to play online. I guess I'm looking for an updated solution that works, if any. Thanks! |

So download any one of those files, and pop it into a flash drive using FLASHDRIVE>PS3>UPDATE>FILE.PUP Any difference between them? Anyone better? Thanks for the reply. Merry Christmas! Last edited by itsGEE21; 12-25-2012 at 03:37 PM. |

Depends on what firmware version your system is on, but the latest release in that thread should do the trick. you should also do the FLASHDRIVE>PS3>UPDATE>FILE.PUP
while in the recovery menu. Just google it if you don't know how to get into recovery. Merry Christmas! |

No he doesn't. Those are for unlocking stuff while in kiosk mode. After making a revert the Ps3 is fully functional, no more locked menus.

I didn't have luck with any of the files, and then I realized the activity light on the flash drive wasn't blinking. I tried a different flash drive with an activity light, and it also wouldn't blink. Then I remembered having this same problem a while back and reading about going through a usb hub first, then connecting the flash drive.
I connected a cheap $5 usb hub I picked up at microcenter and I finally got activity light going on the flash drive, so I reloaded the 4.23 reverter file onto the drive and did this... PS3 CONSOLE> USB HUB> FLASH DRIVE> PS3> UPDATE> PS3UPDAT.PUP Worked like a charm. Thanks guys! After getting ps3 out of demo mode, it updated to the newest OFW from the net and was back to normal with PSN access. Thanks again! |
