New to PS3

Hi I have some few questions and hope somebody can Answer me.

I just go a new PS3 500 GB from my GF Xmas, and wondering what I can use all that space to?

1) Is it possible to transfer movies from laptop, external or usb drive to the PS3?

If yes, which file types would the PS3 accept? Avi? MKV?

2) The DVD player in PS3, make my movies in 4:3 is it possible to change to 16:9?

3) Is it possible to download "free" games from the internet and transfer to PS3 without jb the ps3? if not pls explain what I need to do, and do I risk to be banned from playing online?

4) Can I watch movies from my external drive?

Thanks in advance

japsander : "a new ps3 can not be hacked, sorry but thats all there is to it and there is no progress/no ETA on anything either

im guessing you have a superslim by the fact that you say 500gb in which case forget all about this hacking business and maybe drop back in a few months/years to check for updates

as for dvd playback, go to settings and change the display to match the tv

as for warez, no you cant download free games unless your console can be hacked

the ps3 wont play mkv but will play other video files off external usb as long as its formatted to fat32

as for people not replying, it may have something to do with the fact that you failed to search first. these questions are answered daily

1. Yes, Most formats work - Avi, MP4. As for MKV you will need Univerasl media server on your laptop: www.universalmediaserver.com/ Its free and easy to use.
2. Change the video settings on the PS3 to better fit your TV
3. No, If its new It will most likely be a Non hackable 3k or 4k
4. If it is in fat32 format and can connect to the PS3 with a usb.

Also if it is a CFW PS3 try searching for Showtime (the search button up lol ), its a very wonderfull movie player and supports also .mkv it also has plugins
If it is on OFW you can play .avi , dvd's , bluray movies .
He asked if it is possible to do it on a non jb ps3
So he is not on CFW and its "New" so its a 3k or 4k

and it's no shame to have a ps3 on OFW, i have one too.

mkv2vob can make your mkv's playable on the ps3, no transcoding only moving from one container to the other.
