So I just want to get some stuff out of the way.

So downgrading then updating the PS3 will format the PS3 in one of the steps, and theirs no way to avoid this step without 2 HDD's and the Limited Edition of the E3 Flasher?

Secondly, regarding PSN from what I know in-order to use PSN with a CFW PS3 you need to downgrade to 3.55 and then update to the newest firmware.
Also is their anyway to lower the chances of you getting banned on PSN or is a modded PS3 detectable and theirs really nothing we can do besides play offline?

But none the less I'm able to do all this with a normal E3 Flasher Kit and 1 HDD with my PS3 Slim (Factory setting of 3.41) ?

I am new to all this as well, But after reading your post I thought i would post a reply.

I am unsure about the E3 Limited Edtion and 2 HDD`s, But when i did my downgrade I backed my PS3 up first and Synced my account, As i knew i would have to Format the Harddrive at some point, Once i had done the Downgrade I restored my backup after creating an account profile the same name as i had before i downgraded.

Regarding PSN network, Yes you are correct you will need to update to the lastest CFW to beable to access the PSN Network, as for Lowering the risk of a ban, you must understand that with CFW any CFW there will always be a risk of getting a ban on you account, but that is something you have to accept with using CFW, I must say I have been playing online with my CFW and up till now nothing has happened, I always load the game VIa multiman before signin into the PSN network, touch wood I will be ok but I accept that I may get flagged oneday and / or a Ban.

If you PS3 is a Nor then the E3 will be fine but you could also use a Progskeet 1.0 / 1.1 if you can find one or a Teensy 2.0 which is what i used.

So you got an external HDD and made a backup of your PS3 on the storage device you used then you did everything you needed to do to downgrade to 3.55 and back to newest firmware with cfw then just installed the backup and it didn't change the firmware or anything? Also thanks for replying.

That is correct, Once i had done all the doengrade and INstalled the Lastest CFW, i ran in restore and the CFW was not changed. Hope this helps.

Yes, the backup utility under system settings will backup everything but trophies.

To backup your trophies, go to trophy collection, press Triangle, and choose sync with server.

Make sure you also have a device (downgrade dongle) to enter Factory/Service mode also. That does not come with the e3 flasher limited. That is the step that will format your HDD. A FSM firmware install will format the drive.

It also does not come with a micro sd card and a usb flash drive.

You can check this list for devices to use as a downgrade dongle.
Or if you have a phat PSP 1000 model, you can use PS3Jig.

Where can I read more about a downgrade dongle? Isn't the E3 Flasher for downgrading why would I need one of those for? Can't I restore the HDD backup in the XMB under system. The reason I ask is because I'm short on cash because of my christmas shopping(Not spending more then $80).

You can get this basic e3 flasher downgrader.
Then if you have a phat PSP 1000 model, you can use that for downgrade dongle. Or if you have any of those devices on that list I linked in my last post. Like an old ipod or iphone, a Ti calculator, etc...
You may already have a micro sd card and a usb flash drive.

If you have to buy one, the PS3Key is only $9.95.

Or you could find someone to downgrade it for you. There are some downgrade services in the Buy/Sell/Trade section.

Thank you for replying I appericate your help and advice. I live in Canada, Toronto so sadly their isn't any service for the E3 Flasher here or at-least to what I know so I'm on my own but thanks anyway. But ya to my understanding I can use any storage device on the list or usb or micro-sd if they work that is.
