glad you fixed it, and it's good to know this info, i always thought that the eject board from the fat and slim operated the same.

I have repaired my Ps3 like this before. Its not the power supply! It is the cable!

This one:

Can you make a picture of your cable so I can see it ?

PS: My ps3 did not start without the board being plugged in... after i fixed the cable everything was fine again...
Hey, would this be the quick fix if a phat PS3 switched on to standby, but the power on switch did not work and boot the PS3 up and the blu ray led is red? In this position its not the power supply and most likely as you say the flex cable? Am i right? Or would it be the cable at the back you think?

I'l possibly check the 5v method on the power supply wire at the very last, because i'm like 90% sure its one of the cables that is faulty. Was hoping that it was the flex cable. This PS3 has powered up a couple of times before in my hands, with a slight struggle to switch on through the power on switch. Now it just sits on standby with no power up (no blinking/yellow/red light or nothing like that) Can anyone confirm its the flex cable or the cable at the back?
Thanks.

By the sound of it its also the flex cable, did you ever opened the ps3 and messed with the cable ? This cables are really fragile.

Yh i've opened it up a couple of times since i'v had my hands on it, but havent messed with any of the PSU connecting cables (yet lol). My guess is that the previous owner has opened this up, and messed about with the wires, cables and screws, having no knowledge of what the heck they were doing.
I'l test the PSU, by changing the wires from another PS3 and see if it powers up from standby, if not, i am going to order up a new flex cable.
I've been meaning to sell this PS3 for a while now lol. As soon as i fix this issue, it'l be on the market haha.

No problem mate. just let us know how everything went. I am pretty sure most ps3 power supply issues are directly related to the flex cable, most people just think straight away it is the power supply as it is the only source of power that we get on the ps3.

you know he was talking about a fat ps3 do you, on the fat one you can unplug that cable and the console still works, if you start it with a synced controller.

i have tested this myself, and the schematics from the fat one confirms this.

Im a newb

i have the same or similar problem...my ps3 slim a few months ago fell 4 ft to the ground(damn cats) and the harddrive broke and system didnt work...sony i tthink replaced it because it isnt the same system but they replace the shell so i still had my decals on top....the system shut offs completely after a game (no red light, just blank)i pressed the button and like a sec goes by the fans power up then blank again.....i did some research and everyone said of course the power supply or fans... i found a replacement hdd 500gb for pc and ps then ordered it...i got it this pastfriday and saturday,i formated the hdd and installed the ps, it ran fine...i left it on overnight i put a cooling fan for a pc by the vents to keep it cool and downloaded all my stuff....it was running fine this morning and i turned it off because sony doesnt want to fix the "install at 14% issue" to do a file system check....and it shut off again.....

Now i havent noticed any green substance on either of my supply units and i made sure that the plugs were secure when i hooked up everything...i just ordered a flex cable for the power/eject button...im not good with the technical words for the system....someone claimed on youtube this was the issue....and it seems you guys have more knowledge then i do on the hardware of these systems... Suggestions please keepthe fancy terms of the system "dumbed down" for me please...
