Similar thing happened to me just after new year!

I was playing a LAN game on red dead redemption, my ps3 (launch day 60gb) was quiet even though it was in use for a few hours. The ps3 shut down to a blinking red light and when I powered it down and restarted, i got YLOD!

After 5 minutes, I powered up the ps3 again and it started. It began to check the hard drive for problems and after 10 minutes it switched itself off again?

I decided to wait a little longer before starting the ps3 again, it powered on fine and completed the drive check this time.

I powered the console off until the next morning when it gave me YLOD first time?

Later that day the ps3 powered on fine until it finally shut down again, fan was still quiet and hot air was being blown out but the ps3 now gives constant ylod?

I've got a 2nd ps3 that does over-heat and the fan goes crazy before it shuts off, but my ylod system was very quiet?

maybe the ps3 is overheating, that's why it gets the ylod every now and then..
