Alot of trial and error but at least we can confirm it working.

A few notes are that you must downgrade to 3.55 OFW first and of course always use the recovery menu, you then have to install Rebug 3.55 CFW with OtherOS++, check your system info to make sure the partition is split (if not just reformat using recovery menu, should help) at this point you MUST install multiman in order to have/retain the 'Install package' support with the new Rogero 4.3 v2 cfw, otherwise you wont have it in XMB and have to downgrade and install everything again.

It was a little difficult to get through the shell to see the 'create_hdd_region.sh' file that you need to run (other guides said it was another path but usb devices are different path on my model ps3) but once I located the file on my usb device it ran fine using the './create_hdd_region.sh auto' command and I booted the USB device through petitboot and installed linux (formatting must be done right otherwise you could erase your gameOS partition).

Also when using the red ribbon (or other linux distros)ISOs on USB devices you will need to create a bootable partition with something like unetbootin which is for both mac and PC. This solved the 'kexec failed' issues I came across.

after that I went ahead and updated the rebug 3.55 cfw to rogero 4.3 v2 cfw and it kept the reboot.pkg and boototheros.pkg files installed for easy access to the linux side through XMB. I will make a more detailed guide if needed

Hope this helps

Nice if you can post a video of it starting up might have to give it a go on my 60gig Ps3 which I already got red ribbon 6 running in dual boot
Is it just a matter of updating to latest Rogero

It sounds like a waste of time to try, since you would have to downgrade to OFW and back to 3.55 CFW to get other os option in system settings. I am on Rogero 4.3 CFW, so technically from what everyone says it 'could' work. Theoretically I would:

1- Downgrade to OFW 3.55
2- Install Rogero 3.55 CFW? (or a CFW with OtherOS?)
3- Install/use OtherOS option in system settings/partition drive
4- Downgrade again to OFW 3.55
5- Install/Upgrade to Rogero 4.3 CFW
6- Select the new OtherOS option in system settings
7- Install YDL or Ubuntu
(and probably have issues getting it to work properly)

I dont see why you would have to go to a 3.55 cfw to do anything unless it has something to do with OtherOS only being on a CFW now that sony abandoned it? I'm sure i'm missing something, but without a proper guide I will just have to try it and see what happens.

For some reason I dont believe this will work, my theories never do. Maybe someone will be kind enough to elaborate on their experience getting linux on Rogero 4.3 CFW?

Edit: also, I know in the past there were trophy errors/bugs because of the OtherOS in CFWs past 3.55, maybe doing things in this order wont allow for trophy bugs?
Taking everything in thanks for info, like @stussy1 said, would be nice to see a video.

as much as i'd love to make a video there are still issues to work out. Because Rogero decided he didnt want otheros support on his cfw anymore it seems we have to do some patching before getting it to work properly. The first few boots into 4.3 worked nice, linux started from XMB/petitboot, and now it seems i'm getting error codes when trying to get into Petitboot, but because I did have it working I am going to try the process again and see what is causing the issue in the CFW. Even with the rogero cfw 4.3 'no otheros' support this should still be able to go into petitboot, partitions and data are still untouched by rogero 4.3. However way you look at it this is an accomplishment for fat ps3 users with the 256 Nand because not many people (if any) got this working on that system. It was hard enough just finding all of the correct files with gitbrew down and nearly every link to files broken. I will keep updating as I make progress... and I WILL make progress :P

Edit: Also... i'm thinking the tools (reboot.pkg, installotheros.pkg, boototheros.pkg, etc) and apps used to get this working will need to be resigned for 4.3 and repackaged, maybe then it will reboot correctly to petitboot? Another theory :P

I am interesting in that too. If I use this tools in Rogero to create the new partition, does it will format my HDD? Also if I downgrade to Rebug 3.55 CFW with OtherOS++, does it will format my HDD?

Thank you!!

To answer: Yes, any partition editing/modifying will erase all of it's contents. Downgrading your CFW shouldn't, but backups are always suggested.

Rebug toolbox does not work with Rogero 4.XX unfortunately, at least not when applied directly to the CFW. I was able to keep OtherOS functionality in a Rogero 4.3 build temporarily, and only after installing linux via Rebug cfw's OtherOS options.
I am quite sure the main reason Rogero and other 4.X CFWs do not support OtherOS is because the newer PS3s simply do not have the functionality built-in. This does not mean that the 'old functionality' cannot be brought to new CFWs. Partitioning issues are also a setback. We could bring a Toolbox to Rogero once we mainly solve HDD/Partition issues, correct me if I am wrong but I believe we lack the ability to partition the HD with any FW/CFW past OtherOS functionality. I also believe tools are made/being made to do just that but I am not sure of the progress made.

Unfortunately it cannot be confirmed that it is properly working. I just know we are making progress and i'm not going to stop until we get our linux back on new CFWs

Edit: Also, going to resign OtherOS packages for 4.3 and see what I can do with the bootloaders. Shot in the dark but worth a try. Also, in theory this should work at the very least with systems that originally supported OtherOS, after all... CFW and FWs in general are all software and can be modified. Sorry if it takes a while to get back, but i'm not giving up anytime soon so i'll be posting back when I have more results.

Hello all,

I just read through this thread and I want to be sure I'm following it properly.

At this moment I have a PS3 setup with "System: Firmware 3.55 [BD-ROM EMULATION] and petitboot.

If I only care about getting into petitboot (so I can extract the metadata from the BR), not Red Ribbon or anything else, I cannot go to any of the Rogero CFW?

Sorry for asking, but I want to be certain I'm understanding this all.
