To be more helpful, the xmb is the thing you can pick:

Music, video's, games, etc

Meaning that xmb is your background, also called home.

Not sure if you're asking this but:

Ps3 can read-> Mp3, avc and MPEG4.

I'm not very sure but if you have GP3 movies your ps3 could read them if you rename gp3 to .mp4
Example> I have: Rise of the dark knight.GP3 ( .gp3 is the format of video). So renaming to: Rise of the dark knight.mp4 would work. Not sure how to rename but I used my psp that has a homebrew app called: PSP claw explorer

MP4 is the best format imho.

Ps3 can also read AVI and AVCHD.

tsmuxer is only good for avchd's if you ask me, mkv2vob is more what you want.
but if you movies don't have dts audio then mkv2vob will also copy cinavia protection if it's there.

You know even if the cinavia protection pops up you won't get banned. So it's okay to try. Just don't be online while you play the movies.
