Do the 2501a's actually ever YLOD though? From my experience they do exactly what this one is doing as the "new" YLOD. I could be wrong though as I haven't had many slims.

I will be getting my power/eject board some time today though. This is driving me nuts not being able to power it on lol.

ylod is a general faillure i think, all ps3's can suffer from it.
you need your power/eject board connected for the ps3 to work, that's what i learned.

That trace has been cut on purpose, the battery holder possibly removed to be able to get at the track to cut it.

So the question is WHY?

I would also therefore hazard a guess that the track (being a supply trace) was cut as part of a fault finding exercise.

Looks like the 'fixer' gave up and passed that PS3 on as is without repairing the things they had done to it.

Pure guesswork of course, but I would not be surprised that upon fixing tracks / replacing battery holder etc. that this PS3 has other h/w issues.

This is the info I got from the guy I got it from:

He says he got it from a storage locker. He also said that he googled the problem and saw youtube videos on the power supply trick for these models but it didn't have the two adjustment screws so he was confused. I have inspected the area where the power supply goes and it would appear that somebody grounded it out at some point in their attempt to fix it. i see two burn marks on the mobo chassis and the power supply. They apparently powered it on with out the case on the power supply. That is how i got it in the bag lol. The battery holder was actually partially on when i received it, barely. i just pulled it the rest of the way off. the damage in those areas was already done though.

As for the power/eject board: I thought it was at my work, but it wasn't. As i mentioned, i have had this ps3 for a long time so i may have moved it. Funny i have found EVERY piece to it, except that. I will be spending most of the night looking around the house for it. If i can't find it, ebay i will go lol.

I wish there was a way just to short it out to turn it on though. I've done it with an xbox 360, as well as a A01. Sure, it was by accident, but......lol.

I thought maybe it had been cut on purpose too, but if you look towards the top of the board there is a bigger "cut" in the board. There would be no reason for that one. I thought it was from the battery holder...somehow, someway.

Also, had i known that my power/eject board was missing, i wouldn't have started this project again or this thread until i found it. I'll be looking though as I KNOW it's around somewhere.

Edit: I also wanted to add that the way i worded it in my original post my have been misleading like the pic is how i found it. The reason i worded it that way is because I really didn't notice it as first as there was a partial battery holder there. After several times looking the board over, i realized it didn't look right. That's when i noticed it was broke. All i did was pull it the rest of the way off. All that was holding it on was the negative "prongs" on the board.

I can't find the power/eject board anywhere.

Anybody have an extra for a 2501a lying around?
