you need to slap ping pong's wrists for telling you to get it lol

but take alook about for a broken ps3 (blue ray drive faults are the easiest to fix)
look for a phat model or a slim (up to 2500 model)
dont worry about the hdd size either just get whats cheep then buy a 2.5" sata hdd to upgrade with

wont happen as the new consoles have mtldr2 (just for starters)
the only way the mtldr1 consoles can have cfw is by downgrading to 3.55 firmware (the highest we have hacked fully) or "downgrade" to 4.30 v2 cfw
if a console has mtldr2 then your stuck.
its been a few years since the 3.55 was hacked and it doesnt look like anyone will openly hack the new consoles

keep an eye on the 3k3y (look on main page)
if this is made to work on all console's then this will be your best bet.
you can back up your games then play them from external hdd
there is even talk there may be a possibility to have homebrew working with this.
but it wont work for you just yet as a way to get your drive key without downgrading needs to be found first.

Well, getting rid of/trading or breaking my super slim PS3 is NOT an option due to my circumstances.

So I am going to have to wait it out. While I do so, I'll be active on the forum and try pick up as much information as possible!
