i was hoping more people would reply, because someone might have a bright idea.

there's no way you can measure if the 12V is alive on standby?, i'm really curious now.

EDIT: @JAGULAR1974 , looks like this guy has the same problem, even same model? , but in his case flashing is involved..

OK,had a busy evening, stripped down ps3 to motherboard re-applied artic paste as most had ran down as it is stored upright. So cooling should be ok tried to start green light then off, disconnected blu ray same as before and also removed hdd and every combination of the above and green light from standby then off.
COME ON PEOPLE SOMEONE MUST KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PLEASE

shouting is not helping here, you should call people.
i will call @baileyscream @playerkp420 @Sarah1331 ....lol

if it is an overheating problem then changing thermal past is not enough...

you checked all the fuses on the mainboard? (marked as Fxxxx or THxxxx)

Apologies, just frustrated been searching for this for 4 days. Have called a few repair shops and they all want the business obviously but I'm the type of person who likes to research and repair most things myself ( you could say I'm tight) and I've got a 10 year with withdrawal symptoms glaring at me.
No meant to check fuses but was so happy that i may have found solution with the lack of thermal paste i forgot will do in the morning.
