Hey Guys.. Has anyone attempted to modify the clip (other than just shaving the side)? I noticed that some of the pins were bent back (like back inside the clip). The ribbon is obviously good. I was wondering if there was something i could, but the ribbon is obviously good. Has anyone considered taking the clip apart and hooking it up to something like this?

EDIT: This is a NOR12 being displayed (picture). We would need a 56pin NOR1. Which could be found here, but there is NO picture of it on the website.

Just a thought, because i've been reading a lot about clips being damaged on samsung/other NOR chips or arriving damaged from the distributor. It would be cool if we could as a forum, say, come up with an alternative Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. - i'm sure most person who read this would say "hey, just use the ELinker." They would be right, using the ELinker is an alternative to using the clip. However most people can't solder well and frankly the clip is a "wham-bam" and your done. It can also be used to downgrade/service other consoles quickly and isn't a "permanent" solution like the ELinker.

ugh! So is there any hope for us to build our own "CLIP" or at least make modification to the current E3 Clip? Thanks for you input!

Your best bet, would be to solder the e3 linker. If you can't get the clip to work.

I personally have done about 250 consoles with the e3 nor clip. All I did was shave some plastic off the one side. And it fits on every model now.

Really... Does it still "CLIP" on? Do you tape it, apply pressure with your thumb or use some kind of clamp to hold the clip in place??

Yes, it clips on. I still do tape it also. And only a few that give me trouble, I use foam or something to keep permanent pressure on the clip. On cech-20xx models I use an old clip that I ripped the ribbon off, on top of the clip. Then reassemble the motherboard into the metal cage. Works everytime.

@playerkp420 try not to connect E3 in PS3 HDD slot, E3 gets own power via NOR chip on PS3 if you connect it with cable ribbon, its much easy to do and just simpy leave PS3 HDD in HDD slot

That will work also. I have the limited edition and don't mind using the esata station. It has worked with 250 consoles, so if it aint' broke, don't fix it.

wait so one clip has done 250 consoles? mine is on 8th just now , I can get it to read first time aswell so that not a problem. I just dont want to order spare clips if I don't need them

Get some spare clips. The ribbon is easily ripped. I have ripped a couple. I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th clip.
