CECH-E01 4 usb ports don't work
This is from an older thread, but my solution is not listed. I have the famous, "somebody put a screw in the wrong hole and cut the USB trace" problem
I am good with a soldering iron and I have the issue with the CECH-E01. The trace got severed on the board because some put a screw in the wrong place. I fixed the trace and the continuity is good from front to back. I've changed the daughter board that has the wireless, changed the wireless adapter, changed the ribbon cable that connects the daughter board to the PS3 Main board, tried multiple controllers and everything.. Could all four ports be burned out because of the trace being severed and reconnected improperly? (i had to take the solder off because I was getting continuity from the trace next to it, I re-applied the solder and now continuity is good between the two of them. All four ports do not work. I am looking for help with 1. Hard wiring the usb cord to the motherboard of the PS3. ( I would need to know the points on the board to solder the wires from the USB charging cable when I cut it. 2. Finding a controller that will never need to be plugged in to a usb port (probably does not exist) 3. Any advice on what else could be wrong. ALSO, I would not mind soldering a new usb port and letting it hang out of the case, I just do not know where to solder it to this particluar board.. My email is sleyeguy111 @yahoo .com Please help me.. My PS3 powers up but I can't do anything and it's driving me mad lol. Thank you all in advance. Last edited by sleyeguy; 01-10-2013 at 10:14 PM. |

Yes, everything is acting normal, (except no USB activity) it tells me to press the PS button. I tried plugging in multiple items, usb stick, keyboard, there is no power in any of them.. The Playstation is fine, the trace got severed by a screw and is now re-connected. continuity is good. Are all four ports fried?
I had 3 wishes, lol, on my original post. hard wire a controller directly to the board Use a controller that never needs to be plugged in and another one... I forget |

@sleyeguy
, do you have an external powered usb hub, to check if communication from the port still work?
if you plug in a usb stick or controller into the hub, and it still dousnt work then you problems are more problematic. this would be something to start with.

i guess so, fingers crossed, if the stick flashes but the ps3 won't show the device then you might have a problem beyond repair...

If the only thing that happened was that the trace was cut by someone putting a screw in the wrong hole, and I've reconnected the trace, what would be stopping the usb ports from working? If putting a new set of USB ports in will not fix it, which part needs to be replaced to make it operable again? Thank you, I'm excited to have some assistance because this is making my hair white. Everything functions properly besides the ports. I'm a little new to the site, but I'm going to upload a picture of what happened.http://www.ps3hax.net/picture.php?al...pictureid=4155 <_-------------- Thats the picture ![]() Now this is the same trace and picture that everybody was saying stopped their USB ports from working.... If the trace is repaired and continuity is correct, what else would stop them from working ![]() Thank again Last edited by sleyeguy; 01-11-2013 at 12:40 PM. |

here's are 3 points you can measure, the 2 on the right can be insane because the points are really small, and probably have a protective layer on it. you should read these volts if the ps3 is on. ( the points are on the upper side of the board, near the most left usb port. ![]() now don't be too exited, because if the screw actually did short the thin wires to ground, the ports from the cpu/gpu and the usb controller chip can be damaged and thus beyond repair... EDIT: @sleyeguy , edited my post with new picture and more testpoints.

is that if the PS3 was powered on and there was a short, between ground and the trace, that there are multiple points on the board that will never work again? That really sucks.. So I might have a PS3 that I can turn on, put a disc into, watch it load, and then have no way to play or use it lol. Is there any controller that I can use that is strictly wireless that will sync with the PS3 without ever having to plug it into the usb port? (prob not but why not ask) ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************

if the ps3 never was turned on with the wrong screw in it then ofcourse nothing can be damaged. get an usb hub to try or open the ps3 and measure the points i gave you. |
