Hello, I have a PS3 slim with 12 gbs, yeah only 2 gigs -.-
The PS3 firmware is 4.31 version and the console is a cech-4004A.
Is there a way to downgrade this firmware to 3.5 without using a E3 Flasher? I don't really want to do any soldering on it, I'm really a noob in these things...

no way you cant downgrade a 4k model to 3.55 ofw...
im sorry but you are only able to downgrade down to 4.10
its hardware is so configured that it ofw 4.09 or lower doesnt "fit" in it
it causes a RLOD when you downgrade.. no matter how

It's my fault really. I bought it with 0 research. I didn't even notice that I bought a 12 gibs version. I just wanted to spend my first paycheck u.u

PS: always investigate before you buy.... if it isn't for the info just do it for the price

If you still have the receipt take it back and try to find a used PS3 that's downgrade able.

Pay particular attention to the column "FW Release date" to know if it's able to go to 3.55.

Well the 12GB PS3 can have a 2.5" HDD inserted with little to no trouble.

That way, you'll have more space. When you insert a HDD into it, it justu disables the flash storage in favor of the HDD (unlike the phat Xbox 360 Jasper models, which can use both its flash storage and optional harddisk simultaneously).

And yes, you are out of luck in terms of jailbreaking it. You need a PS3 that can be downgraded to firmware 3.55, or which is already at firmware 3.55 or lower. Mayhap you can use a 3.56 FW ps3.. I have never really understood the deal about the 3.56 firmware.

If you want a slight hope for your PS3.... Some guys are actively researching for a way to get the blu-ray drive key, so you can emulate the blu-ray drive using external hardware... they might come up with something. They are not a group that does it for free, however, their solution xk3y (I think its called that) is going to be quite expensive.... But you can play on PSN with it meanwhile...

Now the question is.. they say they are actively working on a way to get the drive key, so it can be emulated... If I understood the PS3 architecture correctly, they would need access to some EID's.... How they will do that without having a jailbroken ps3.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Well, I don't know **** about hardware, and if it can be done somehow that way, but softwarewise, that seems preeetty tough.
