HD Upgrade
Looking to upgrade my internal HD on my Slim 160gb. Is it possible to backup all my data (games saves, game data, multiman etc) and restore to my new HD? If so, is there a good tutorial for it? Thanks!!

You can't copy your old PS3 HDD if that's what you're asking.
You'll have to back up everything that you can copy from the XMB (Game Saves etc.) to a USB drive, then after you've installed your new HDD, you'll have to add games/multiman/React PSN etc. all over again. No way around that as PS3 drives are encrypted. |

Code:
Steps for upgrading... Removal of the drive is easy enough... 1 - There is a little door on the bottom front of the PS3 that hides the screw (blue) that needs to be uncovered and then removed FIRST. 2 - the front cover with all the logos then comes off and the drive is inside (MAKE SURE THE SCREW IS REMOVED FIRST! The cover LOCKS with a hold screw pass through) Slide the cover to the right and it comes off - no need to pry it off. 3 - pull the drive cage out (no moving to the right to unlock like in the fat version). 4 - the drive is bottom screwed into the cage (as opposed to side in the fat version) - be careful and don't strip the screws. 5 - the drive lifts out of the cage, the side without the lip 1st and then the side with the lip second - the spring clips in the cage do NOT need to be lifted off the drive (Notice the lip on the right side - lift the drive out from the left and slide the drive to the left to clear the lip). 6 - reverse the order to insert the new drive 7 - once you power back on, make sure you have a drive (USB - thumb or disk) with the following set-up in the root folder "PS3\UPDATE" (in windows it would be a folder called "PS3" in the main directory and a folder called "UPDATE" inside that folder. Again make sure it is OFW 3.55. 8 - Follow the on screen prompts, And you will end up back on XMB. From that point Enable QA, Install KMEAW or rebug 3.55. Then once they are install, You can upgrade to any of the new 4.30CFW. Last edited by mckenziesdaddy; 01-13-2013 at 08:49 PM. |

@mckenziesdaddy
when I upgraded my HDD I didn't have to go back to OFW. I was on Rebug 3.55, ran backup utility, swapped hard drives, re installed Rebug 3.55 from my usb and I then ran backup recovery or whatever its called.
@ecw if you're bothered about trophies, make sure you sync them first as they won't be copied over. |
