Now i'm trying to full format a drive with WD Data Lifeguard (write zero on all hdd sectors) to see what appens if i put a blank drive in the ps3

Sadly I'm now stuck at getting in to FSM. I have a a dongle and what ever i do, i can't get get in to FSM.

Followed every stepp: backup > verify > oneclick downgrade > (At screen: Please insert PS3 Controller over usb)

1. Update USB dongle
2. Insert in to right Port
3. Pull out plug on ps3 and resinsert
4. Press powerbutton and really fast press eject button.

I get two led lights on the dongle and they never go out. It then continues to the "please inser controller" I can upgrade the dongle over my computer so i assume it's not fried or something like that. I tried with a second Dongle with my nexus one, but same result. Did i miss some stepp?

Any one have any Ideas?

try creating your own patched downgrade
flash insted using e3_downgrade.bin

i tried it with two differents (perfectly sane) drives, if i put them in the ps3 format fails before reaching 2% with error 8002F281
if i use a non-blank hdd i get to 99% and i got stucked there


can i get ros0 and ros1 from my other 4.30 rebug cfw and put them in the flash of the broken one? according to ps3devwiki they should always been at the safe offsets so it should't be so hard if they're not per-console encrypted! what do you think about this?

i remember you i already tried to reinstall 3.55 fw from FSM (like in this tutorial) but Lvdiag.self crashes and generate a 0KB log file
right now i don't care about downgrading, i just want format my drive and install 4.30 ofw.. cfw will come later!

thanks for your answer. I think i know now what the problem is. My Dongle only has .bin (for the dongle not PS3) that do the exploit for 3.41 not FSM. Sadly it doesn't take hex file only .bin

But now I just went a head and got a E3 Reader where i know it has a hex for downgrading. Just spent the whole day finding that out.

PS3 dongle 3.41 exploit != FSM

Maybe flashing your original Nor flash, and downgrade again. Will get you out of your loop.

That error means:

Update error 	0x8002F281 	Error with installing Firmware update. Check the connection of the Wifi/BT board.

OR

Issue with the PS3 harddrive. 	0x8002F281 	Issue with the PS3 harddrive. Reboot system and use Recovery Menu options. If error persist, Format the hd on a pc, reinsert it to the ps3, install update (normal/recovery mode), format hd on install. If still not fixed: exchange harddrive.
Note: This error also comes up when trying to install a 1.5TB HDD as internal HDD.

well... if you don't own a FSM dongle you can use the Three Musketeers files to patch your original flash
that should allow you to install 4.30 E3 CFW directly from 4.30\4.31 OFW
give it a try, it may solve your problem!

now i'm replacing some stuff (trvk_prg0 trvk_prg1 trvk_pkg0 trvk_pkg1 ros0 ros1) from my other 4.30 ps3 flash to see what appens

As they mention in their Post:
PS3 WITH 4.31 OFW FOR NOW IT’S NOT POSSIBLE, YOU POSSIBLE BRICK IF YOU TRY).

So I think I will just wait for my FSM dongle. It's already ordered and paid anyway. But thanks again.

I would try what I suggested in my last post.

When doing the downgrade, maybe patching the dump with Rogero's Nor Dump patcher?

already did it, i tried any existing downgrade patch
i apply them correctly, i enter in FSM, i prepare Lv2diag.self and PS3UPDAT.PUP in the root of the usb drive

PS3 runs Lv2diag.self and freeze, i got a 0KB log file
i tried 6 differents usb key and 1 usb hdd, i get the same result everytime.

i think to remember that Ermac used E3 lv0 and his custom coldboot broke ps3 startup chain
now i'm patching the flash inserting E3 coreos file inside it hoping i can get a format hard drive (coldboot.raf is inside that area)
