The ODE will cost money for one. As well, (currently) you will NEED to be on exploitable firmware ( < 3.55 ); therefore if you have a 3.xx or 4.xx console you need to buy this device AND a flasher to be able to USE the ODE properly.

The ODE is strictly for piracy, nothing else; On a CFW, you have your backups, homebrew and a plethora of other things that you just simply will not get with this device.

Like I said in another thread, this device is targeting the ignorant (not used in a negative connotation). The "free" games that people think they are getting cost money because:

1) Buy the device
2) Buy a flasher (if your console is 3.xx or 4.xx)
3) Subscribe to an internet service
4a) (may) need to purchase a (new) HDD (the rips are 1:1, so you may encounter 25-50GB ISO's, therefore filling up your HDD pretty darn fast)
4b) Need to buy BD-R's and Blu-Ray burner if you chose to burn games to disc
5) Need power to run your: Tv, PS3, HDD, controllers, etc

When you bundle in the price JUST to play your "backups" or "free games" it isn't quite free after all. The ODE also carries no guarantee that it would or would not be detectable by Sony, therefore enabling them to ban your console from PSN (as this device theoretically will let you be on OFW).

Best thing to do is save yourself a bunch of cash, and either go buy a flasher to downgrade your console or try to find an old console you can put CFW on without the need for flashing.

the ODE *might* work on the 3k / 4k series someday, but will only support piracy ( and disc dumping to keep your discs safe.. ( hah, right.. ) )

however, a good CFW will allow you to do pretty much everything on your console

I thought it can make all new console work even the super climb later state if it is only for 3.55 and below console is useless. After reading some post and their website I thought I can make it work on newer console if not the super slim. Are you guys sure that their ODE is only good for 3.55 or below?

Currently, what they are saying is that yes, it is only good for 3.55 and below (already exploitable consoles).

They did say they are looking into an exploit for ALL versions, but whose to say they will find one? It's all speculation at this point. 3x and 4x have been out for a while now and no progress has been made (yet).

** Currently fw =< 3.55 is required for extracting the drive key. After this the FW can be upgraded freely. This holds true for all ODEs, see below for more details

Key extraction Currently a firmware <= 3.55 is required for drive key extraction. We are very close to completing a relatively user friendly hardware method for extracting keys from PS3's on any firmware. Until we have it working in a commercial environment we will not promote this as a feature, even though it is very likely to happen in the immediate future. As of now there are no PS3 ODEs that works with a PS3 that cannot be put on 3.55 firmware for key dumping. Period.

No doubt cfw is much better bt now what found is cobra ode can work....specs are released and they r going to start shiping from next month onwards...Check that out

As of now Cobra ODE only works on systems that can be exploited as it needs the bluraydrive key or whatever...

True....key extraction is one of the major issues....i got a gut feeling that soon we are going to have a cfw which could be installed on atleast 4.25 or 4.30!!!
