If you think that something is short-circuited, then the NOR Tristate with wire connect to GND,if ps3 it will work then the problem is not short-circuit.

@JAGULAR1974 , please take some close up pics from the usb area for me (both sides of the board)

more detailled pics means better help.

EDIT:
@playerkp420 do you still follow this thread? , the usb thing might interrest you, or did you allready send that ps3 back.

Here is another attempt at some pics. Probably my last, I think I'm gonna ship it back with a "sorry I can't fix it "

pics
the ports "look" fine
if you still have it and have a multi meter can you do a continuity test on the 4 pins from both ports.

Yeah, I've still been watching this thread closely.

I actually bought the PS3 for parts. But if I can find a way to fix it, that would be great.
When I have time I will take it apart again, and do the tests.

I have a bunch of PS3s to downgrade first, though.

if you touch your probes ends together what is your tester giving as a reading?

just looking at your above pics and with you saying you were charging something via the usb.

can you voltage check the backup battery on the board. i wonder if this has somehow blown

and @Mr.Dutch you click the pick to get a bigger image
(your post after this said the image is too small)

ok i was on pg 5 doing a catch up when i posted.
desolder as @Mr.Dutch has told you countless times the TH3301 then see if it boots.

mr.dutch is asking this so you dont need to de-solder and remove the usb ports.

by doing this you can boot and if it boots propperly then its the ports if it dosent boot then its a fault further along the board.

right thanks
just wanted to check your multi meter was giving correct readings.

and bat sounds ok shorting wise (it would have been a 0.0v / -0.1v if the bat had blown and was now shorting.

the part i have put in red.
this is +5v and ground shorting on that port.

can you give a good clear shot inside that port (look at playerkp420's pics to see what i mean)

and do the TH3301 removal as mr.dutch has said

i carnt see anything in there.

and once the TH3301 has been removed there will be more to do depending on the results of trying to boot.

if your really no good with a soldering iron then i think it will be wrong to get you to try this.

i think its time you sent it for repair.

if you ask for a report of the repair so we can see what the fault was then others can benifit from this

this is unless @Mr.Dutch wants you to try some more first?

i didnt mean to take over from him. just came in to add / help out where i can
