1b is a no go!

1a is the "last" of the "hackable" kind

There are some PS3s with datecode 1b, that do not have metldr 2. This should work on those also. This should work on any PS3 (nor models) that does not have metldr 2.

@haz367

I just tried on a CECHH01. I kept the blu ray drive attached. And it worked like a charm. Even both ros0 and ros1 folders were filled, when I made a dump and checked.

This makes me extremely happy. You know how I like to save steps. So this is definitely the least amount of steps to finish. No need for a FSM dongle, and no need to reinstall Rogero 4.30, to fill the empty ros folder.

Thanks.
EDIT - I did have to enter the recovery menu and choose option 3. Restore File System. Because packages would not install. But that fixed it. Must have something to do with it not formatting the hdd. Oh yeah, that is another good thing. It didn't format the drive, so the customers profile was still there.
@pezao
We can not help you, if you don't provide the info about your dump. Who validated it?
Because this should work perfect for you, if you have a valid dump.

Just open the bkpps3.swap.bin with HxD. Press CTRL + F. Type SCE in the box and then hit ENTER. Now press F3 over and over. It will search for all SCE in the dump. Go slow, and you will see the firmware revisions close to one of the SCE. You should see 2 in the about 50 or so times you hit F3. The higher of the 2 is what firmware it was on.

Thumbs up sorry for the hijack..good info anyway :)

great thx for info mate.... recovery needs BD drive attached indeed....i haven't tested this methode myself on such sconsoles but that's good news and saves alot of time cuse when doing it properly with old way..it really takes some time to get final "proper" setup also the ROS0/1 being full = good...whatever it may cause in the "downgrade using 355COREOS" but like u do..checking it anyway just to make sure, i've heard it can happen on downgrade BUT not always, but u&me seem to have it always backt then, it could be not doing the "step2 - restore dump" after making the backup....seems we can leave the old way behind and use this instead, also the skipping FSM-format HDD..another great step forward ...these guys...Rogero and co are doing a great job for us all!

thx again for the confirm and the info

How do you validate your dumps?

Don't you use Hxd?

Search text SCE in the dump with a hex editor in text mode. as you are searching, you will see 4.31 or what ever firmware.

Open HxD.
Drag n drop the bkpps3.swap.bin.
On your keyboard press Control and F
A box will pop up. In that box type sce
Hit enter or click OK
It will go to the first SCE it finds in the dump.
Press F3 on your keyboard to continue to the next SCE it finds.
There will be about 50 SCE that it finds. So you will press F3 about 50 times.
Go slow though, and close to 2 of the SCE it finds, it will have 3.55, or 3.56, or 3.60, or 3.72, or 4.21, or 4.30, or 4.31, etc.....

There will be 2. One will be the firmware it was on when you made the dump. And the other will be the firmware it was on before it was updated to the one it was on when you made the dump.

If you do the same with a patched dump, your will see 3.55, 2 times.

I hope this is making sense. If not, you really need to learn how to validate your dumps.

bootldr offsets are not the same for every 1a dc. this one is marked in green on wiki. the other 1a dc marked in red on wiki can be downgraded.
@digiprog you have sent the patched bkkps3
