diagram usb port
@JAGULAR1974 , looking at this diagram i see all components except the 2 zenerdiodes (closest to the port). or sony did removed them (it's actually one part with 2 zenerdiodes in it), or it is located under the port. (if thats possible in the first place) now what components can short, in my opinion only that unseen part or the control ic (8 pins) btw that ic also tells the cpu that there is over current on one of the usb ports, and normally the cpu will cut down the power to that port, but on boot up it may not be ready to do that. about the TH3301, you could try to cut the trace instead of desoldering. ![]() keep us informed

Mr Dutch
Do u think I should just due solder the port as my soldering techniques could accommodate the larger solder points would this be the same as due soldering th3301 |

if you scratch some of the protection layer off you can put some solder on it if the cut was unneeded afterwards? if you cut the trace i marked near the usb port, you can measure on both sides where the 001 ohm comes from. if you cut near the TH3301 the usb ports should not influence the ps3 anymore. (in my opinion) ![]() if you decide to cut then measure if it's really cut with your meter.

@stdule
thanks for confirming this, it's good to know, because normally i focus too much on the blinking standby led.
![]() so this shutdown (no lights) on the 25xx would be the general hardware faillure like the YLOD on older ps3's. EDIT: if you still have it cracked open, some quality pics would be sweet.

cutting the traces is not something for you.... i do understand that there's always a risk, but i thought you had nothing to loose, ps3 is allready non-working.

if you did cut the point i marked at the TH3301, you could use your meter and measure resistance on both sides of the cut, it should be high. you can't swap hdd it will be formatted on the new one. |

I would like like to extend my thanks and gratitude to SARAH1331 for a fantastic repair with very quick turn around and always kept me informed as to what was going on with my recent ps3 repair.
He could give you the exact details but basically the ic controller for the usb was fried when overexerting the usb by charging indoor helicopter (although it was to be charged by usb?) and he replaced/repaired usb ports, reinstalled thermal paste etc. for a very good price and was returned within 4 days although 2 of those days were lost due to my own shipping but he basically received late Wednesday and was back in my possession on Friday and now peace is restored in my household. Again thank you very much to all that help in the problem solving and especially SARAH1331 for the repair |
