Yes very.

Recovery used to be the safest way.. still is probably, but this works perfectly from XMB.

It seems that i have a 3.41 spoofed to 3.50 or 3.55. I am not sure cause when the dongle is on it reports 3.50 (3.41 without it) but when i try to update in recovery it requires at least 3.56. So it seems a downgrade is required. If i do a Restore PS3 System would that re-install OFW and if yes how can i know which version would it be?

Yes you need to downgrade.

No restoring will not reinstall OFW, it will just remove all settings and stuff, not reflash the OFW.

@War Boss just been checking more on this situation: seems your are on 3.41 spoofed to 3.56 which means you cannot update to 3.55 because your syscon believes you are on 3.56...

I will try the 3.40 OFW tonight and I am assuming that I need to put the console in Service Mode with the downgrader and try the downgrade with the Lv2 File one with the OFW... <snip> Yay!!! Finally, success! Thanks to all the people who answered my question, severusx, bitsbubba and elser1... I downgraded to 3.40 OFW with the Lv2 File and it worked... then upgraded to 3.55 OFW and CFW...I am soo happy now...thanks again guys!

I think the key is to use a FSM/downgrade dongle (possibly your dongle) to get into FSM and use LV2 downgrader to get to 3.40 then back up to 3.55 OFW.

I am unclear on this.

Also found a thread named "3.41 spoofed from 3.56>3.41 modified>3.41 OFW loses dongle jailbreak ability" this would suggest there is <somewhere> a modded 3.41 FW to egt you out of that spoofed situation, but you will be on a borked 3.41... aslong as you can update your PS3 through system update via storage media (to 3.55 OFW) you should be golden... will search for 3.41 modified fw for you...

So if you have downgraded from 3.55 straight to 3.41, Chance's are you have a Modded 3.41 which wont allow you to update unless its a FW higher than 3.55 & its recommended that you downgrade to a lower FW than Modded 3.41 so that you can update with a Offical 3.41 update that will allow you (for whatever reason) to update to 3.55 without error.

This is the steps you need to take:

DOWNGRADING FROM MODDED 3.41 TO 3.40. DOWNLOAD PART 2.. PSGrade hex for all boards Downgrade File's 3.41-3.40 You will need a Jail break device (Dev board) Or a PSDowngrader/Clone that can put your PS3 into service mode. So if you aleady have one, load the PSGrade hex file for you board on to it & proceed to step 1). 1) Unplug or switch off your console and then switch back on or plug back in. 2) While still OFF connect your Jailbreak/Downgrade device and press POWER then quickly Eject, your PS3 console should turn itself off automatically (Some time's it stay's on & doesnt tturn off, Just wait 30-40 seconds untill the dashboard has loaded & then manually turn the PS3 off). 3) OPTIONAL - Turn your PS3 on to verify you are in Service Mode (you will see a big red box, you can't miss it) then turn your PS3 back OFF. 4) Place the lv2diag.self (FILE 1) from the archive and the PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.40 UPDATE PUP) from the archive on the root of a USB device and plug into the rightmost port on your console (dev_usb0) 5) Power on your PS3 with the usb device in and have and leave it downgrade, it can take a few moments for the PUP to install, your PS3 will turn off automatically. DONT TOUCH OR TURN OFF YOUR PS3 AT THIS POINT! NOTE: if your system seems unresponsive and the light just stays green for ten minutes or more you need to use a different usb stick. i've had sporadic results with several different sticks. 6) Once the PS3 has turned it self off, Power the ps3 back on, you should still be in service mode, check your FW version now to verify you have downgraded successfully. Then turn Off. 7) Remove previous archive files from usb stick (Everything that was on the USB) and now place lv2diag.self (FILE 2) on the root of your usb stick. 8) Place usb stick in rightmost port of your PS3 (dev_usb0) 9) Turn PS3 back on with usb in place, it should turn itself off very shortly after. 10) Remove USB stick & turn your PS3 back on and go through the configuration again. Done. Downgraded from Modded 3.41 to 3.40 :D

But you need to find the files: lv2diag.self, PS3UPDAT.PUP (3.40 UPDATE PUP) + the downgrader files for your dongle.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS WITH SLIM MACHINES !!" cause my ps3 is slim. And i fount out what dongle i have and i think it can be used for downgrade. I read that it supports all PCgroove files. I'm not 100% on this, the last time I had 3.41 was on a FAT 60gb waaaay back when. Do as much research as possible and see if anyone has done this on slim.. i dont know why they specify not to do this on slims...

You need something like amtel flip or the amazebreak program to flash your dongle.

The dongle doesnt exactly contain files to be backed up or copied, you flash the HEX or image to the dongle and it acts a certain way.

www.amazebreak.cc doesnt exist anymore.. but I believe you can locate the files mirrored if you google hard enough....

Amtel flip might work for your device, I have no idea.

@DEFAULTDNB I had allot of trouble finding out what type of dongle i have, turns out its custom made . So i opened the damn thing, tracked the manufacturer trough the chip model and downloaded software from their official site that gives me the option to load hex files into the chip. I will probably start the downgrade process soon. Just a few more questions:
1. What Hex file is the best for me (im thinking PSGrade hex)
2. If i downgrade to ofw 3.40 do i need to go to 3.41 (like in the tut) or can i directly upgrade to ofw 3.55?
3. Do i need to run toogle qa and if yes when?
4. My final goal is Rogero 4.30 v2.5. Do you think its a good CFW?

1, agreed
2, I would go to OFW 3.55 if possible, there should be no issue skipping OFW updates and going straight to OFW 3.55.
3, Once on 3.55 OFW, install 3.55 CFW (kmeaw is easiest) then QA toggle + button combo to confirm (apparently QA flaggin isnt needed any more, but I do it just in case
4, Rogero v2.05 is what I;m running right now, its awesome
