I think you are just using a weird old view in mM, I use XMB view as default to make it seamless.

Update mM it wont hurt, but it also wont get your HDD to miraculously work either.

i always thought , that the ps3 usb ports are not powerful enough to to run a external hdd on its own and it would need a external powers source eg plug in the wall

People asking me about my ps3 firmware and MM blah blah related question like I've done a Phd in Ps3 consoles, I don't know a single Crap about it, and It's getting complicated day by day, why the hell my External HDD is not showing up eh? I'm exhausted!

Have you done post #75 on page 8 yet, Which is the same as post#39 on page 4

If so what are the results?, if not could you?

and dont forget to allocate unit size to 65536

also tick the Quick format box (if not ticked already)

This is frustrating.

@Mindfreez3 why wouldnt your windows 8 have compatibility settings? this is the issue here, nothing to do with your PS3.

You need administrator rights, you need compatibility settings.

Sort that out and you can go back 4 pages and get this fixed in seconds.

I have proven this, by doing it and validating the method and tools for WD Passports.

I dont think he has d/l @playerkp420 's link DNB, the format.exe he was using in the 1st .jpg he posted on page 7 #69 clearly shows he is using format.exe from an old W98 startup/recovery disc.

@playerkp420 's link to his version of format.exe works perfectly fine on my W8 straight out of the box.
