it is better to go with the Solder less solution, since it will be easier.
there are test points for the CoK-002 in the wiki, but it is not recommended.

You can't solder progskeet on to that points, it won't work.

Ok, I found another slim PS3 for sale since my CECH-3001B is worthless for CFW.

The unit for sale is a CECH-2501B running OFW 4.30. The guide says some 25xx are downgradable and some aren't, and that the way to tell is with MinVerChk which I did download. Quick question:

1. Is MinVerChk the only way to tell if the 2501B is downgradable ? Is there a list of the 25xx models instead? Or perhaps the hardware/exact model number doesn't matter and it's checking the OFW to determine?

Just looking for some clarification, as I doubt the person selling it will let me mess with it before I buy it. But if he does:

B) I looked at the readme for MinVerChk and all it says is :

"Copy into /PS3/UPDATE and try to install from XMB. This should tell you which is the lowest version you can install on your ps3."

Again, noob here. Can someone elaborate? Off the top of my head I'm guessing it's telling me to make a directory on a usb stick called PS3/UPDATE then try and use the file to upgrade in the PS3 settings?

If I have to use MinVerChk if someone could walk me through the steps in more detail I'd appreciate it.

Look at the manufacturing date on the black sticker, on the bottom of the PS3.
If it is March 2011 or earlier, you can jailbreak it with e3 flasher.
If it is April 2011 you might be able to.

Basically if it is 2010, you are for sure good..

Ok, just got word it is July 2010.

So, Slim CECH-2501B with a black sticker date of July 2010 currently running OFW 4.30.

Am I good? The OFW isn't an issue?

If not I guess it's NOR = Teensy++ / Progskeet / E3 Flasher for me, or let someone else do it.

what player told..also this....can't hurt to verify for sure or ur sitting with 2

u have to ask urself...why's he selling....could be anything ofcourse..maybe he also tested and noted the minverchk being 3.60

ask him to make a screenshot of the Minverchk PUP running and reporting the firmware on screen = 3.56/3.60? if its 3.60 leave it alone, if 3.56 then buy it....don't quote me if it magically is an metldr2 afterall..it started from 3.60 on those models and ofcourse the new models...

So, the idea of the MinVerChk is to check the original OFW version that shipped with the box. So when I downgrade before CFW, I can't take it below the original version, hence the reason why I want to make sure I can take it to 3.56. Gotcha!

Can someone clarify then exactly how to use the MinVerChk then?

I've got the PS3UPDAT.PUP file and the Readme (which isn't helping much), so if someone could walk me through the steps I'd appreciate it.

if u go to the buyer..then take ur USB stick with u and place the minverchk pup = PS3UPDAT.PUP like any other

create on root of USB:
PS3\UPDATE\
and place PS3UPDAT.PUP in there..looking like:
PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP
then run it from XMB-system update..it reports the minimum firmware capable of installing...3.56 and lower = good not claiming rest aint good but we don't look for them right

You do mean plug the stick in, turn PS3 on, go to Settings>Update and select the pup file to run right?

Just making sure XMB doesn't stand for External Motherboard lol, sorry - previous lingo.
