Project64 v2.0.0.5

Apparently the group working on this has finally started offering updated versions again. It's been so long since an update that I stopped checking their site. I've been using v1.7.50 for a while now. The down side is that you have to donate $20 to get a version newer than 1.7. I would love to find a link to a free 2.0+ version So I'll keep looking.

I hope so. I won't be paying $20. WTF is that all about anyways? I thought donations were supposed to be optional? Personally, I think it's the best emulator. I hope it has more to offer than just Banjo Tooie. Hopefully they haven't just come out to make a little more money off of it. It would also be really cool if they would release the source so somebody could work on an emulator for PS3.

If they have the 6105 CIC chip call back look up algo they can implement it into the emulator to make it run faster and smarter IIRC.

Banjo tooie had 267 128bit strings, each of which return a 128bit key. Now if BT, JFG and a few other RARE/NINTENDO games run already but use a hacky approach they have had to use workaround after workaround to get it to work, they can replace their hacky code into tighter clean code and optimize it further.

We should see significant speed up alone imho.

EDIT: found more info on v2.0.0.6/7 closed alpha from 2013-01-07 , but no download:

Project64 2.0.0.5:
ok, tweaked some more things ...

can not get dk64 intro sequence to match the audio .. but I think that is going to take a lot more accuracy in timing that is not possible at the moment

Changelog:

fixed bugs in memory write (GE)
tweaked audio code a little
tweaked half life code a little

Project64 2.0.0.6:
Banjo Tooie freezes at that unga bunga cave
ok uploaded 2.0.0.6 to fix this

Changelog:

tweaked pif2 challenge/response (tooie)

Note:
Killer Instinct Gold is broken
I will fix in 2.0.0.7
Seems to be working on the fixes implemented into NOT64 a while ago to get comparable results... and they definitely working on banjo tooie

EDIT 2:

Slightly off topic (?) I found an updated version of PJ64K from 2 days ago, but it's most likely still based on PJ64 1.7
Changes:
Project64k 1.0 Released Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Star Road and SM64 Multiplayer rom info added to rdb
Removed anti-3d dead server list

Cool. I've downloaded the K version. I'll try it in the morning. So basically they're taking somebody elses algo work on Tooie and NOT and then implementing it in their emulator and charging for it? Looks like you're gonna have to bite the bullet and make that donation and upload it for the rest of us

I cant afford $20 for "alpha privileges" ...

For $20 I would want the full emu 100% working, not a promise of something that may never happen, and a sketchy alpha build...

1.7 users have had 1.7 since the end of 2005..... 8 years later we have to pay for a new build...

I bet an equivalent mod of mupen or 1964 or something will come out for free before project64 becomes reasonable.

Send a message via Skype™ to Annelies
They should at least release a LITE version for free and offer upgrades for $20.

I'd say what they are doing isn't all that bad.

They are not like True Blue or Cobra. What they do is that they _always_ host the stable version for free, and only allow donators to download the beta versions.
I say it is cool, as long as its just beta versions they don't release publicly. After all, it gives an advantage to donators, while everyone can enjoy the cake when its done being baked. I see no problems there.

Its just like www.securitytube.net (awesome place if you like IT security). The owner there has a _****load_ of videos, courses, recorded lectures, all that ****. Everything becomes free, when it has been there for one year. And its fantastic stuff that there is there. It only gives some advantage to the donators that helps keep the site running, by allowing them access to the videos first. The owner has no intention of keeping stuff away from you.

Another comparison could be to 4chan. Moot (the owner) introduced "4chan passes", which allows donators(/people that buy the passes) to post there without having to type in that retarded captcha... Everyone can still post there.

Now, I will address one problem/flaw with Project 64's model.... When something is a beta for the past ... 7 years? It becomes quite retarded that it is still being kept unaccessible. I mean... securitytube would suck as well, if he decided to keep videos away from people for an indefinite, but surely long time, and then suddenly just release them.
But then again, I actually have tried 1.7... It is truly a beta, it ran A LOT less stable than 1.6... and while I had less graphical errors, it crashed everytime for me on both my computers, when running on fullscreen mode and something popped up in the background (Yes, I could disable skype to avoid those popups... but have fun disabling all popups... from things such as your antivirus and from windows as well... only to enable the important ones later on). There was no way they could release the 1.7 I experienced publicly (and yes, I tried the latest 1.7 build too). In that sense, it is just some "bonus" that donators could try and download the unstable 1.7 and see how it ran on their system.
I guess, the true sad 'problem' with Project 64 is that development seems to have stopped on it, and we cannot blame them for that.... I was really happy to hear with this post, that they seem to have started working on it again though!

I haven't tried 1964 and Mugen lately, so I don't know if they have reached the level of project 64... But the last time I tried them, they seemed below Project 64.
