Thumbs up long post..read pls..

@here2rock Yes...maybe should have posted it better
i mean only AFTER the default E3 downgrade, then u must VALIDATE ur dumps before flashing..always! if ur set after that and want to remove the e3flasher...remove it...u have ur e3 flasher hardware backups saved somewhere..ok set again...but then u have no flasher attached to make anymore dumps correct....then u start to play arround with ur PS3..it is recommended to make a backup of ur nor/nand flash again...cuse changing stuff..it can make "some" previous backups u made invalid..meaning when u flash them u still get an bad flash error = RLOD..so just make a new backup(they are identical as hardware flashers..BUT for E3 to use them>> software made dumps ogf norflash) u must ONLY byte reverse the dump to make it E3 compactible..so brick later on?..attach the e3 flasher make sure again that ur e3clip is fitted 100% then use the DUMP u made previous/before the brick...e.g u have rex 4.21.2(made backup with the Toolbox) and like to test things but BAM..brick..then restore the PS3 with the backup of the Toolbox u just made...and for software/homebrew made dumps u do NOT have to to a complete validate of the dump as u did on the "first initial downgrade" cuse those backups are just perfect each time..the important thing only at that moment is making sure the e3 flasher installation is done properly again else u would brick trying to restore, and this is ofcourse of bad clipping..not caused by the dumps u made with MM/Toolbox! and finally for E3 u must byte reverse them first to make them E3 compactible think i typed that already..but its important or else u stuck with another(easy to fix nonetheless) brick e.g blackscreen cuse the dump is still reading IF.I at offset 200, betteri cannot explain

hope it's clear for u know...have fun

Just looked at the E3 page on Wiki, the installation of E3 flasher is very different. They have no top cover for PS3.

I understand that not a problem.

but then u have no flasher attached to make anymore dumps
correct....then u start to play arround with ur PS3..it is recommended to make a backup of ur nor/nand flash again...cuse changing stuff..it can make "some" previous backups u made invalid..meaning when u flash them u still get an bad flash error = RLOD..so just make a new backup(they are identical as hardware flashers..BUT for E3 to use them>> software made dumps ogf norflash) u must ONLY byte reverse the dump to make it E3 compactible..so brick later on?..attach the e3 flasher make sure again that ur e3clip is fitted 100% then use the DUMP u made previous/before the brick...e.g u have rex 4.21.2(made backup with the Toolbox) and like to test things but BAM..brick..then restore the PS3 with the backup of the Toolbox u just made...and for software/homebrew made dumps u do NOT have to to a complete validate of the dump as u did on the "first initial downgrade" cuse those backups are just perfect each time..

I got a little lost there, after the initial flash are these non E3 backups using Toolbox. What is a Toolbox? I guess this Toolbox is installed after you are running CFW?

the important thing only at that moment is making sure the e3 flasher installation is done properly again else u would brick trying to restore, and this is ofcourse of bad clipping..not caused by the dumps u made with MM/Toolbox! and finally for E3 u must byte reverse them first to make them E3 compactible think i typed that already..but its important or else u stuck with another(easy to fix nonetheless) brick e.g blackscreen cuse the dump is still reading IF.I at offset 200, betteri cannot explain

Not sure I am going to have fun! Edit.... haz367 I read your posts again, it is starting to make sense now

Just read the guide again on page 1 a few times. A few questions and clarifications as follow:

I am on OFW 4.00. I probably want to go the Rogero 4.30 2.05 (I believe this is the latest CFW). If I am reading the guide correctly I do not need a dongle. Why would you pick method 2 or 3? Are method 2 and 3 only if you are going lower than CFW 4.30? Why would you want to go lower than CFW 4.30?

Is mehod 1 riskier than the method 2 or 3?

Also is it preferred to cut the metal as shown in E3 Wiki guide here on Pic 3 and 4:

thats up to u to decide..they all works...i would go for the default way = method1..the 355 way...asi cannot comment on 4.xx rogero downgrade....maybe others have other view on this..it is tested by @playerkp420 and he aint talking out of his crapper either....its just ur choise at the end...please read the guide pproperly..again and again IF ur still not sure...take a break....let it sink in..re-read aagain..make sure e3clip is fitted and of u go..most important is the first BACKUP of ur original OFW, without any "first" valid backup of that specific PS3 in guestion is a perm-brick later on!

so that's ur first quest...installing the flasher correctly and making a backup, then ask the "trusted" guys over in the "dump check" topic don't do anymore steps before they reply back that the backup = VALID/COMPLETE

looks like goodluck is written as good luck..so

good luck

haz367, I was going to read the dumps myself! I was just reading the guide on Wiki. Is it possible to get a sample valid dump file to try out the methods?

no there isn't ..u cannot use anyone elses backup for ur PS3
only flash/restore ur own dumps from ur own PS3.

if u mean...a dump for testing the verify etc...to get a hang of it..go grab Pro.Hack's dump(search his nick) its public property by now...and no don't use that dump for ur own PS3....only and only with a freaky kind of brick...so forget that last sentence and just make sure u do stuff correct the first..

Try it. Make some backups and validate them. If it is corrupted, try another card.

So its means that can I install OFW 3.41 instead off OFW 3.55 if my console have lower factory firmware, like as 3.40?
Yes if your PS3 came new on 3.40, 3.41 is not lower than that.

If 3.50 was the minimum firmware, you can not install 3.41.

Yes, otherwise I would of had to buy over 300 flashers.

No I was not going to use for my own PS3 but just for learning purposes.

Thank you. Just wondering what percentage of bad dumps do you get with E3 flasher. Is it really that difficult to make it sit properly on the NOR chip? I am kind of getting the impression that most of these bad dumps are because E3 is not set properly.

In regard to the professionals do they cut out the metal piece on the plate attached to the fan? At least with top open you could press it down in case it is lose. Opening and closing it takes a bit of time.

the easiest way is when the ps3 is dissembled, no need to cut anything, u could do that to make a perfect fit if ur doing a perm-install of the e3 flasher, e.g a CECH2004, those are the b*tches of um all(NOR's) i cutted the alu plate...then a guy posted a picture of the e3 ribbon going over the HDD slot...much better and no cutting required BUT if perm-installed WATCH IT when put together..the ribbon get's easely smashed/damaged from the aluminium plate..so be carefull
