as you can see those 3 points are also on the other side of the board, technically you can solder the 12V and ground still on the normal side of the board but the pwm needs to go to the other side.

or you can solder all 3 to the other side of the board.
first solder 3 wires to the connector then glue it into place and then solder the wires to the correct points?

if you do, then measure if you have no short after soldering.

damn it. exactly the 3rd point is broken and the small chip (resistor?) is even missing on my side. so i have to search an alternative point for pwm. but looking on the backside, there is nothing significant to me where i could go to

here is a picture for my misery:

You still might be able to salvage something out of it. Just reading stuff on the web, the grey wire is probably not that critical anyway because I believe if it is not connected then the fan might on all the times therefore a bit noisy (Some experts might be able to confirm that for you). It is worth a try just with two wires. If nothing else then you might be able to use external mod to control the speed.

without the grey wire, the fan will only spin for a second on startup and then do nothing at all.

but you can conside to get a fan mod, that way you only need the 12V and ground, but you will control the speed yourself using a potmeter.

I might have to get a pro to solder the wires. I don't know if I have the skills to to solder on to tiny pins. I do not know the benefit of gluing it to the main board. I am not sure whether it will actually stick to the main board. Can I just leave it loose and tape from the top on the board to stop it from moving around?

as long as the connector is isolate it's all good, but you might want to bind the wires onto something so you won't pull more traces from the board.

maybe you have a local computer store nearby that can do repairs. ?

@haxxxen , your picture looks somewhat fucked up.

maybe only a pro can repair it.

@here2rock
thanks for the heads up, i really appreciate it

and @Mr.Dutch
thanks for confirmation.
i know, but the scratchings i have done very carefully myself, to follow maybe any useful traces.

here the front to make it complete
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/apdc0187.jpg/

the guy has done it very well i think.
but he only said something about the ripped off fan connector and nothing about the messed backside. i was very angry as somebody told me there is even a resistor missing and i have not touched this slim since then

luckily i have a very tiny controller from a borked pc power supply which i will use then for the external fan mod

and sorry that i have hijacked your thread @here2rock , but i couldn't resist as i am in a similar situation

It is perfectly fine, we can learn from each others' problems. The connector for the fan seems to be very fragile. It was not that I pulled it so hard but it came loose so easily. I will give it a go to the local PS3 repairer, I don't think soldering three wires should cost the earth.

Bl00dy hell! I'm sat here reading all your pain thinking I could sort both boards in under 15 mins. One thing that does come to mind: IF mounting that connector housing on the other side of the PCB is there a) room for it and b) would the wires not get trapped once the PS3 is assembled.

If these boards were mine, I would glue the connector back into it's original position (using something like Double-Bubble or similar epoxy), obviously leaving the 3 connection pins free of glue and then use 3 small wires to bridge the necessary connections.

Connector is therefore in it's original position and hence no d1cking about with anything else. Simples (he annoyingly says).

Good ideas but you will still need to runs the wires somehow. Just wondering from what side should you run the wires from? One thing I do not get is why you need to resolder it if you can glue it back on without getting the glue on gold connections?

Just looking at those pics, the repairs were done by just running one wire from the other side not all three wires.
