Wired , using a crossover cable connecting my pc to the ps3. What I meant is that the backup manager is not a limiting network factor. I have exactly the same speed using MM, Iris, OpenFTP and blackbox ftp

That's true, it could be linksys' crappy firmware. I'll try DD-WRT firmware and see if I get better and consistent results. I should have been using that fw in the first place,
