some scraping noise? from the disk drive or the bottom of the ps3? and open it again. unscrew the blu ray drive but DO NOT open it. flip it over and look at the blu ray board. inspect all ribbon cable and wires to make sure they are connected properly (they have little lines on them to indicate a marker where it should be connected) connect the ribbon cable and power cable back to the system. do not screw the drive back just reconnect it gently and sit it down. try again. then repost.

Sounds like the fan could of failed. Maybe the bearings in the fan? Or there was something that fell into the fan, a screw or piece of plastic?

oh yeah true. can you hear the fan running when you turn it on? if its fat flick the switch off then back on and hold down eject. some fat systems have an eject mode that spins the fan on max. you can also open the ps3. take off the blu ray drive. power supply. lift up the mobo and spin the fan a little see if theres anything inside there. if so shake or pull it out carefully. if not gently place the mobo down. do not reconnect the blu ray drive or board. just the power supply(assuming you disconnected it) and turn it on. is the fan running? you can see it if the mobo is loose its underneath everything on a fat ps3.

oh also.. if you take the ps3 apart there are a cpl smaller wires. ontop of the wifi/blu ray chip for example. be mindful of what you unplug and where you unplug it from. will save you alot of time and frustration. requires patience or you can just make your issue worse
