the connect controller screen is not factory service mode.... thats the one thats got the red in it :P the connect controller is RESTORE more. connect the controller and go to update firmware then usb storage media? lol unless u mean that isnt working. if that be the case what firmware are you on? you need 3.55. so try installing 3.55 ofw. you can install cfw from ofw 3.55. if you cant get 3.55 ofw then i guessing it wasnt downgraded properly. when ya try 3.55 it will reject and ask for the firmware it wants usually if it knows its supposed to be 4.31 or whatnot.

i misread lol it said TO enter i thought it said to not enter. my apologies. either way after the downgrade flash ofw 3.55 and then go to cfw. and make sure you HAVE A DUMP AND ITS BEEN VALIDATED LOL. too many ppl posting here that they forgot that part lately.

all fat consoles get hot. just some of em get too hot lol. i really dont think thats your issue unless its burning hot and fried something. but i highly doubt it. i think you have missed a step somewhere in the downgrade and should try installing 3.55 OFW and if that fails and you cant get into factory service mode you need to re read the tutorial and start over at square one. however im serious about the fact i hope you have a valid dump :P

do you have a disk in the drive? you should not as it will pick that firmware over any on a memory stick,

to me sounds like your paste is bad or you have not put the ps3 back together correctly.. is the fan turning at all?

also sounds like you may have not have hit factory service mode, some in depth setps that you have done would be more helpful

do you have a psp 1000? an e3 card reader? or just the e3 chip and clip with no usb device? :P pretty sure somewhere in that whole process you are supposed to get to fsm after all the downgrade bs and install the fw from there with the pup to exit fsm on the same usb drive as the pup for the fw.

gotta learn somehow. first time i replaced a blu ray lens i had no idea what i was doing. just followed a tut. change it. worked.. read the disc. but dammit wouldnt eject. then i opened it again. it ejected and took the disc in but wouldnt spin fast enough. opened it again and had to play with the cogs a bit underneath very friggin thing. put it together. disc goes it. loads. plays. wont eject..... GRRRR lol. leave it a few days. and after a few beers open it again and oops i broke a blu ray switch. so it works for psn and netflix. has a new laser that works. but drive still dead because the switch is broken so it thinks theres a disc when there isnt and i havent had time to try a bypass yet...... lucky ive got 2 other working ps3 systems or id be cranky :P

what i can say tho is i learned ALOT from that process. since then ive opened both my other ps3s. did the laser in one and thermal paste in the other. no issues at all. its a learning curve.. some people catch on some dont.
