Private key to sign firmwares pretty much and if not then the really difficult task of removing one's head from one's ass and sharing aka Cobra/GayOPA as it's possible that they (and others) have all keys in their possession. Argh.

couldnt one of us buy the cobra and extract its firmware and get the key then? and the lvl2 and stuff from 4.31 now allows what? signing stuff to run as if the ps3s firmware was 4.31 but not to actually sign a full firmware pup?

The best thing to do would be to anonymously release a method. That way a lot of people could find and release the keys and you wouldn't have any one person to blame. Of course, those same people with the method would rather sit on the keys and try to find ways to make money off of them. To me that's stupid, something like paying for your PS3 twice. Still, the window of opportunity is closing since the Wii U has been released and the other next gens are soon to follow. I think the keys will eventually be released.

Ego is a big problem and ever will be the same.
Until we have some out of the blue *leak*. Some people need their name all over the place to get some e-fame. They rather die on virtual bling bling than help scene. **** happens.

question is how are they doing it. there is no reason they did it and we cant. we just need the how
************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* i read the whole thing explaining how the private key is hidden. however what i dont understand is wouldnt the new key come inside the firmware update? im guessing the code doesnt exist untill it is required for the key exchange and then the system/game or whatever exchange the keys and at that point the private key is given. what i dont get is with all these people that have got the whole e3 kit and a functioning 4.31 cfw spoof or whatever it is why is it impossible to create something to run on said ps3 to grab the key exchange somehow. and my last farrrr out there idea is where does the exchange happen inside the ps3? the logic board? some part of the mobo? is it possible to get some kind of device in between the two points that do the key exchange and record the raw data from it? |

i read sth about the ECDSAlgorythm but i dont check it... you can download the OFW 4.31 from sonys playstation HP and why cant u just extract it and read the private key or somehow it must be possible if the .PUP is encrypted decrypt it (the ps3 is decrypting it also...?) if the PS3 accepts only a specific key extract it from the .PUP...

thats a simple view on the situation. the private key is hidden inside of infinite amounts of data. maybe it doesnt even exist at all untill the console requires it for authentication then it gives out the key for that split second and poof its gone again. we need to know where the key exchange happens and get in between it somehow to see the exchange

1 to encrypt and sign stuff ( private key ) 1 to decrypt stuff ( public key ) the PS3 contains the PUBLIC KEY, cause there's no reason for it to carry around with the private key.. Like people said LOTS of times; The privatekey is NOT in the ps3 hard / software!
