No the private key will be in a locked secured room at Sony. There is no reason for anyone but Sony to have it. The ps3 will only ever need the public key. The ps3 never encrypts data just decrypts to run it.

The only private key we know is 3.55 and I suppose earlier ones.

the public keys are in the ps3, not the private keys

ok lets say i got a front door . i just locked it with the key and then removed the key , it the key still in the door ?

signing something with a key and putting a key into a file are 2 diffrent things.

yes, the .pup is signed, but no, it doesn't contain the actual private key

I have to laugh every time I read these threads. if Cobra/whatever company had the private key we could buy a CFW that we could install over any OFW. this certainly isn't the case. as for someone having it? very much wouldn't doubt it. people say caculating the key is impossible but I'll assure you right now that that is far from true although thats not to say it would be easy! as for will they share? maybe maybe not. are they obligated to? not even close! Would it be very generous of them? yes.

OH and BTW just because we dont have the private signing keys doesn't mean we couldn't theoretically install CFW above 3.56 but a further exploit would be needed then just signing some files.

It's not the same.

IIRC 4.XX CFW is based on 3.55's ability's QA flagged/SPKG/HMAC keys in some combination I do not know the exact workings of the downgrader pups, or the basis for making a CFW.

3.55 is REQUIRED to be able to update to CFW.

Rogero and rebug have modified these CFW's to be downgradable through special pup's.

Without an exploit on 4.XX OFW in the first place there is no chance.
