raf to rip, reactpsn?

hi, i am confused as to what rif files are.

i have installed some psn games, the ones i have installed need you to put an edat in your exdata folder.

i read that it is possible to put the edat file in the pkg so you do not need to do it manually, sure, i understand that.

but i see tools like, rap2rif... what does the rif file do?
rap files are used for reactpsn right? using something like rap2rif, can i somehow install a game that requires reactpsn without installing reactpsn?

thank you very much

if requires reactpsn then it would need reactpsn , if it didnt then it wouldnt say it needs it , search up reactpsn tutorial

reactpsn activates psn stuff eg dlc etc

Rap2rif and rif2rap are PC solutions to ReactPSN.

All you need is your IDPS and ACT.dat.... so you dont necessarily need ReactPSN.

this is what i thought, but i wanted to make sure thank you defaultdnb...
i would rather use my computer to do this, than installing reactpsn, so this is good for me.

not to be rude, but i really hate it when people like carldenning say stuff like 'if it needs reactpsn, then it needs reactpsn' if you are not sure... don't assume... not everything is so simple... don't spread around false information!

thanks for your reply

What @carldenning said wasnt exactly false info.

But there is an alternative, its just not as noob proof as React, and it's lesser known.

The groups/people that release backup PSN games release it in its simplest form and the simplest way to get people the piracy they desire.

Thats why they recommend reactPSN, no PC required, no extracting IDPS and act.dat onto pc to do the same job as react can do with less hassle.

No body knows everything.

DEFAULTDNB, have you tried rap2rif? I tried to use it with my legit act.dat and IDPS but rif file would be not accepted. I found post saying that i need act.dat created by reActPSN to use rap2rif, so this might not be entirely true.

No I read you need a valid act.dat + your console IDPS for RAP2RIF according to @flatz himself:

Following up on the previous ReActPSN v2.20 release, I have recently created a small PS3 RAP2RIF converter application for converting .RAP files from ReActPSN to .RIF file format.

It is based on a my own research.

Place it to the ps3tools directory along with other tools and then place your idps and act.dat files to appropriate folders.

This tool will generate .rif file that you should copy to your exdata/ folder. Then you can unself a corresponding NPDRM file.

Have fun.
I would presume this is NOT for the generic ACT.DAT that ReactPSN generates.

It's same for RIF2RAP:

I have created a little "batch-version"...
Just copy all *.rif files in the folder and run convert_all_rif2rap.exe (of course u have to place your act.dat and idps in exdata folder)

It's just a quick version, feel free to test. Maybe it's useful for those like me, with many *.rif files.
kudos to Eslab for this nice rif2rap tool
I could not get any of these to work with a ReactPSN generated ACT.DAT. And I dont have a legit ACT.DAT because I refuse to have PSN on my CFW machine and risk a ban.

ok, sure, i understand, sorry and thank you.

so, i have a real/valid act.dat, i have been on psn etc. i have my idps, the number that multiman displays when you go to like console information right? the one you need to resign saves, i think.

ok, so what about this bit:

This tool will generate .rif file that you should copy to your exdata/ folder. Then you can unself a corresponding NPDRM file.

so, i need to unself a file? so i do not just put the .rif file in exdata, and then install the pkg?

in all honesty, it does not seem very difficult, reactpsn seems just as complicated, making a new user on your ps3, renaming it, etc etc... i mean you do not need a computer, but, if there is a nice guide for this rif method, that would be nice. it is nice to have multiple ways to do things. if there is a guide (that i could not find), then please point me in the right direction

@kmsi063 below is the guide on rap2rif which i have found on another site. this will help u. kindly tell me where did u find the .pkg for idps, kindly send me the link coz i tried one but it did not started on rebug.

i tried reactpsn on rebug and it worked but it did not work afterwards so now i am trying rap2rif

"Download: Download rap2rif needed files.rar from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way (includes: cygwin, idps.pkg, rap2rif, reactPSN)

INSTALL AND SETUP CYGWIN
(I've also heard you can bypass installing cygwin by putting cygwin1.dll in C:\Windows\system or C:\Windows\System32 [depending on 32 or 64bit] and using windows command prompt, never tried it)

1) Open downloaded package.
2) Browse to Apps\cygwin setup files.
3) Run "setup.exe".
4) Follow the setup instructions and choose default settings for all setup options excluding install location, Choose C: drive for install location. (You can choose to install somewhere else if you prefer, I only chose C: to make the guide easier to follow)
5) When Cygwin has finished installing, Browse to "c:/cygwin".
6) Double click on "Cygwin.bat" (A command shell will open).
7) Wait for your user name to be displayed then type "exit" in the command shell.
Cygwin is now setup.

1) Open downloaded package.
2) Copy the contents of "UserName" to "c:/cygwin/home/YourUsername".
3) Copy the "bin" folder to "c:/cygwin" (Overwrite any/all existing files/folders).
PS3 environment is now setup.

WARNING NOTE:
-------------------
DO NOT CHANGE ".ps3" OR IT WILL CAUSE ERRORS.

get IDPS
1) Open downloaded package.
2) Browse to Apps.
3) Copy "get_idps.pkg" to the root of the usb device.
4) Plug the usb device into the ps3.
5) Install "get_idps.pkg" via Install Package Files on the XMB menu.
6) Keep the usb device plugged in.
5) Run get_idps, It will dump your idps to the root of the usb.

Note:
-----
The get_idps dump is already in the correct format for Cygwin.
Copy the "idps" dump from your usb device to "c:/cygwin/home/YourUsername/.ps3".

if you dont have the act.dat file (located in dev_hdd0/home/0000000X/exdata on your ps3) you have to use reactPSN once to get a universal one, there are plenty of guides on this. Your "act.dat" file go in "c:/cygwin/home/YourUsername/.ps3/exdata"

put .rap files in "c:/cygwin/home/YourUsername"

open cygwin.bat in c:/cygwin (or wherever you installed it) or the cygwin shortcut on desktop or start menu if you chose to install these

in the cygwin command prompt type: rap2rif [your rap file] [your rap file name with .rif at end instead of.rap] hit enter
example: rap2rif UP1018-BLUS30538_00-BATMANINCSKIN001.rap UP1018-BLUS30538_00-BATMANINCSKIN001.rif

.rif file will be created in "c:/cygwin/home/YourUsername" (same place you put .rap file)

put .rif file on ps3 (via usb hd or FTP) to dev_hdd0/home/0000000X/exdata (where your act.dat file was, if you had one)

install your dlc.pkg on PS3 that corresponds with .rif file just made, that's it
