PS3 N00b with many, many questions

Hi everyone! CrakGenius here. Let me tell you a little about myself...

I have been soft-modding Wii's since the Twilight hack first came out. In all, I've probably modded close to 100 Wii's between my own and friends and friends of friends.

I've been a Nintendo fan, and LOVE the ability to backup games on a USB drive and run them through a USB loader. No more switching discs means my kids no longer ruin games before we can even get tired of them.

I was given a PS3 as a gift yesterday. Out of curiosity I decided to search if the PS3 could be hacked, and came across this site. SO... here's my list of questions:

1) What threads, in order, would you recommend to a complete PS3 n00b who wants to mod their PS3 to play backup games? I already know that I have system version 4.31 (I looked that up because I assume it's important to know, like it is on the Wii)

2) What exactly is jailbreaking? I noticed that term on the forum and went to what was supposed to be a n00b thread, but it used so many unfamiliar terms that I quickly realized that I am truly a n00b among n00bs.

3) Do I need a dongle? Or a USB device of some sort? I remember seeing some time ago that a small USB device about the size of a jump drive was needed to run backups, but that was before I owned a PS3 of my own. Is this still the case?

That's all for now. Nice meeting everyone and hope to learn LOTS from this site and all you guys on here!

Gonna tell you this right now:

If you received a brand new PS3 as a gift just yesterday, that PS3 cannot be hacked.

But let's say you are one lucky sunnavabit$%, is the PS3 a Phat? Then it's completely hackable.

If your PS3 is a Slim, then look on the back of your PS3 for a white label that starts with:

Serial:

and compare it to this:

Check here

If your Slim matches anything in the Red highlights, you can't hack it at all.

If you have a Super Slim (it has wavy/bumpy lines all over the top of the PS3), you're just fuc%$d.

LOL is it bad that I'm such a PS3 n00b that I don't really know? It is the slimmest PS3 I've ever seen, and it has the top that slides open (which is cool... I like the ability to remove games with it powered down). So... if that is the ultra slim model, then I totally have an ultra slim.

It has a 250 GB HDD if that's relevant. Also, another question that came to mind since posting my initial post: is there a way to download and install PSN games like .wad files on the Wii? Just curious.

Thanks!

Well, it sucks that it can't be hacked... yet. BUT it's awesome that I found the right community for when it CAN be hacked. Thanks everyone for the quick responses!

E3 are releasing a new chip to let play backup on any console even from USB. It is not a Jailbreak (Custom Firmware) but at least it let you do what you're waiting for
