PS3 3.40 (fat 60G) Finding it's worth
I'm new to this. I'm looking for a response to this post in simple a form. I have an original release 60GB backwards compatible PS3. It's version is 3.40 and has been like that since it got the YLOD back when MW2 was big. Its never been "modified" or touched up until last week when I got the repair for the YLOD. There's obviously nothing wrong with it, assuming the guy who recently fixed it would jump at the occasion to make a quick buck. So my question is, what is the worth or value you would associate with this system.
Thank you for your opinion(s). |

As YLOD fix is most likely not gonna last longer than 12 months I'd not buy it however would probably fetch £100+ on EBay.

Someone has a 60GB for sale that has just had it's first YLOD fix on a UK forum I browse and is "perfectly working" like yours.
He's got it listed for £50 + delivery. Nobody wants it. A YLOD fixed console is junk, although the fix can last up to 12 months as @charlie666 has stated, that's a best case scenario, the reality is usually 3-4 months for first fix, then if you fix it again 1-2 months, then after that it will either be a couple of weeks or it just can't be fixed at all. But yes, ebay is your best bet, plenty of suckers there and could get a £100. |

I see, I appreciate your input. That was my primary concern was the work done to it and how/if it affected the value of this item. Also enjoyed the "suckers" scenario, it really demonstrates the difference between worth and value.
If anyone has anything else to say, more comments are welcome and appreciated. |

It all depends on what "fix" he did to it. A common scammer would have most certainly done some botched repair attempt such as heat gun or hair dryer, in which case it won't last long at all. If he did a professional reflow to it, then you would be looking at around 12 months, max I would say. If he reballed the console with leaded balls, it could last a really long time. I personally and my friend aswell, both have launch day ps3 consoles that where reballed with lead solder and they are still up and running years later. His is more than 3 years since the reball, no issues. You can tell what kind of fix he did to the console pretty easily by telling us what ya paid to get it repaired. How it was fixed would greatly influence what it's worth.

Reball is obviously better but IMHO I wouldn't buy one.... Once it's had YLOD then still likely to reoccur.

I'm not sure what he did, I'm no expert on console repair. He did it for 50$ (CAN) and although it was done in his basement he looked to really know what he was doing. Had to make and appointment and he had about 100 consoles along with his fixing gear in a clean and organized environment. His focus is 360 hacks/repairs but he also does PS3's. I'm not going to have it altered for my own benefit, as I wouldn't appreciate it fully so my plan was to sell it as it stands now on ebay. After he fixed it and plugged it in and we discovered the version 3.40 he said a hypothetical value was 400$ CAN. I just figured I'd get a more "educated" value before I list this for sale.
Thank you for your posts, this will probably be going up on ebay shortly. I'll probably list it in laments terms leaving out the YLOD repair to try and pawn it to a rookie, but I'll be sure to reply honestly to a pro asking directly about the "fine print". |

I've reflowed a YLOD console and sold it to a friend, and it has been working for about 4 years now, I don't know where this 'it'll happen again' thing is coming from. Maybe I just got lucky. You could ask the guy what he did to it.

Just check forums on the matter... Reflow=waste of time(what use is reflowing already useless tin solder?)
Recall=Still not guaranteed past 12 months(although the leaded solder is a vast improvement)
