I am glad they are going down. They offered me 10 bucks iirc for my armored core 4 answer
. Bought it new and in perfect condition. Rarely buy games anymore (don't play games that much) but I guess a good way to bust them in the balls is only buy new and never trade in, instead sell online or to a friend, also never buy a used game, just an idea lol.

I have a little more insight on how GameStop operates then most, but it was one of the best jobs I've had. I like buying quality games; the box, instructions look much better on a self then per say a large HDD array. So I do understand why many would shun a company that charges money for games.
Per the sale of open goods GameStop's policy is to open a couple of new games, put the boxes on the wall and place the disc in a paper holder. This does happen, but not to every single game. Say it's the first shipment - so they put up 3 boxes then sell 20 units that week of sealed/original games. Then the next weeks shipment they sell too. The only time they sell those 2-3 opened copies as brand new is when they have run out of stock and the customers can clearly see they are buying something that has been opened. I do unlike that practice and think the gaming companies should provide them with boxes. For the staff - most of them do not know a lot about video games, but that can be said for most low end retail shops. Furthermore, due to "our" (you and me) being very educated on games it makes it look worse due to the fact they don't spend as much time as they can gaming. I agree that GameStop should hire people with more knowledge of games, but again in any industry you get people working who know some, but not always enough to satisfy you. As for GameStop closing - there's a bigger picture here. It's not because "they suck"; it's because of the USA's economy. There are lots of other stores that originated with the GameStop report closing hundreds of stores and leaving tens of thousands of Americans who voted for our moronic administration who will be out of a job very soon. Best Buy, Borders, Radio Shack to name a few. While our administration says our economy is getting better unemployment has barely changed and things are getting worse. Sadly, all of these employees are being fired because their employers have lost money last year and will lose more by having to deal with Obamacare (the presidents crappy universal health care reform). If you do your homework you'll see it's not that "Gamestop Sucks" that they are closing stores - it's a show of the current situation in the USA (which I might add effects their global business as well). |

Gamestop doesn't empoly gamers. They employ pushy liars, I know I worked there. They are not there to help, they are there to sale. But, look at the cild hard truth. Is there any biz out there that is here for service or money. I was telling my fellow workers that gamestop is going under.

You're right about one thing, GameStop did this to themselves. If they would have offered used games 5 - 10 dollars cheaper and gave customers 5 - 10 more on sales or trade ins they probably would have been more successful. Now it looks like they're headed down the BlockBuster route. I'm not excusing them for that. Maybe they can fix it before they do themselves in completely.

Yeah, my good friend is a store manager at the one near me. If you don't preorder the game there, and then you go and buy it "new", the plastic wrapping is already off the game. Gamestops policy is to open the games and try them before they sell them, so if you noticed, "new" games are already opened, not like other places where they are sealed. They pull the disc out of the drawer and put it in the game box when you purchase it. That's so lame. Also, all the store managers and assistant managers are aloud to check out the games to go and try them for "knowledge" about the games. Well that same game he takes home, he brings back and sells as "new". Total bullsh*t if you ask me. Even he agrees, and it's his job. I miss eb aswell. We also had a game store called rhino games, and another called play and trade (which the one by house got rid of the name so they wouldn't have to pay royalties and is now called wizard and is locally owned). Wizard is the best in my area being locally owned because they allow you to come in and pop open a game for you to try on any console you like. At any givin time there are kids trying new games before they buy it all over the place. Makes you feel like you are in a good game store, not some corporate bs store like GameStop.

I went into a gamestop for the first time in a loooong time the other day actually. I was spending the day with my mom, and while we had to wait, I said "every gamestop is the same. Every one has a big fat LOSER, who is a complete dork that thinks he is sooo cool behind that counter. All he will do is try to push as many preorders as he possibly can on us"! I am surprised (don't know why) to see the other comments on here that they are the same all over, and Globally at that!
With pi$$ poor customer service, buying used so low and selling so high, I am not surprised to see them start hurting. It definitely is due to the economy here in the U.S. but that is also mainly happening to the waaaaay overpriced giants like be$tbuy and radio$hack. People start caring to save a buck, other places are recognized and word spreads like wildfire. People are leaving their comfort zones of familiar store and those places will hurt from it. I don't think if gamestop closed it would help $ony with their used games plan. If they were to implement that, they know they would just shoot themselves in the foot. They are already hurting too bad to lose people that would blatantly walk away from that. Or do they?! |

There's many retailers doing good out there. B&H, J&R, MicroCenter, Electronics Expo, to name a few (Newegg). These stores are always full of people when I go and hell they understand when you tell them "No, thank you. I don't need an extended warranty", in Best Buy you say that and it's like you are speaking gibberish. I'm just waiting for Apple retail stores to tank as well, by far those are the nasties, most arrogant pricks in any retail store... how do people go into those cesspools of humanity is beyond me. The day I feel like buying icrap, I'm doing it online. |
