you can overclock with stock fan, but your not going to get as much of a preformance boost as you would be able to with upgraded cooling. The front back and side fans only really remove heat thats been pulled away from mobo already. If your going to replace any fan I'd change the stock cpu cooler. If not wc then maybe a zalman.

I use this one:

You can use stock cooler as well, if you know how to OC problem is stress test and find the right spot.
You will generate more heat even with high quality fans and some nice airflow hence you are forcing cpu to work *harder*.

That's the main reason i choose WC, you have better results and you can achieve even more than using pure airflow solutions.
Personally i dislike big phat heatsink coolers but know im changing my WC so im with this zalman.

Also bare in mind room temperature and if you are in summer. Hot days can be *dangerous* to make stress tests.

i know about noctua but everyone cant install that on their cpu for the simple fact not everyones pc is big enough to fit it & if you have big memory cards like CORSAIR Vengeance you wont be able to use them with noctua because noctua will block part of the space to fit them in

Overcloacking with some expensive cooler or even with the most cheaper one. Shortens CPU lifespan.

If you don't like to overcloack you will use your CPU at stock speed, same as memory cards even your vga.

The ones who like to OC their cpu/memos/vga many of them fried many components. It's pushing to the limit and get most of it before it *blows*.

That's why they keep changing their hardware too.

Im not a big fan of OC i like use my main rigs stock but with a WC build i had no problems at all so far.
If you really take in consideration:

1) Some good case.
2) Some cooler that you like with at least 2000 rpm.
3) Nice airflow
4) Using some kind of OCZ cooling for the rams.
5) Arctic silver.

You are good to go.

@Firebuble I hate that **** :P honestly. It's better and even cheaper to made some some simple loop to your CPU with some cheap radiator and pump/reservoir with better results than piece of crap that Corsair done.

Honestly.

I tested both.

Lol...I don't have a stock cooler. I will change the exhaust fan to 2000 RPM's. I'm just looking to do a modest overclock. Something like 3.4-3.6. Maybe as high as 4.0. I think it could handle that.
