@Mr.Dutch how long would reflows last? found a local guy that offers the service for $25 for a reflow and he claims that it is better than a reball as he says reball damages the ps3?

He is full of it.

Reflow is a temporary fix. It is heating up the chips with a heat gun, hoping the solder flows back together. And if not done correctly can damage other components, fuses, resistors, capacitors, etc...
Reflow won't last long at all. Especially if you already had it done once.

Reball is replacing the crappy solder, with new solder. It is permanently fixing the problem.

@playerkp420 Oh, i see thanks for the info. I have no idea where to get a reball now as another place offers it for $120 so i've been thinking reball is it completely permament? or i might as well buy a used ps3 from CL or something for around that same price.

120 is well, not that cheap, is it no cure no pay?
there's always the risk since you installed firmware that something else is wrong...

if your ps3 was on original firmware then the choice was easy if you ask me.

the bad thing about repairing jailbreaked PS3s is that most services make a 24h test on the ps3 and they 99% see that its jailbreaked (you must be a super moron to not notice a jailbreaked PS3)

that can cause problems and when you go down to OFW 3.55 to jailbreak it again they will probably update to 4.31 >.<

and that guy is talking BS he just doesnt offer a reball but still wants customs

@FaxiY and @Mr.Dutch the price $120 is overall price because they charge $30 diagnostics fee wether they can repair it or not. So should i just buy a new slim like the 2000 slims and just jb that one instead?

If they're charging 120, and you can't find anywhere else at all that will do it at a reasonable price (120 is not reasonable). Get a slim and be done with it, there really isn't a guarantee that their reball will be permanent, even if it should be.

In all honesty, much as I respect Mr. Dutch I would have to disagree with him on a reball being permanent in practice, no place will offer a guarantee on their work longer than 90 days from experience and it just so happens that a good reflow will last approx 3-4 months, so...you are opening yourself to getting ripped off however you go about it and relying on people you don't know, not a good idea in this position as you have no leverage whatsoever to come back and get anything sorted.

You'll be 120 down, with a broken PS3.

Best bet would be to get it reflowed cheap, sell it, put money towards a slim. Anything else would be showing a lack of thought and out of ignorance, fair enough, but if you go down the road anyway, you only have yourself to blame.

@baargle Thanks for the tip i guess ill just go with the slim as i heard it also doesn't overheat as often as a phat? And well the place i found, the only place that offers a reball is like a local store they have professionals as well as professional machines just the $30 diagnostics fee fix or not still applies so its pretty damn stupid in my opinion.

other people always say reballing is a permanent fix, and i just take that to be true...

but you are probably right, nothing is quaranteed, that's why i would not pay 120 for it, i would rather buy a new one.
