Hello I bought my PS3 a while back now... there was no modchip etc for a long while then I stopped playing for a bit. I just brought it back out to use after a long layoff, and figured I would check to see if there was any progress made.

To my surprise it seems like a lot has been done, but unfortunately I think I may have somehow missed the boat ?

When I go into "system information" it says -System Software: Version 4.11


After looking around a bit it seems the only way to mod your PS3 now is if the Version is 3.55 or lower ?


Kicking myself as I must have updated without even knowing. So I did see there were ways to flash the firmware back to 3,55 on select systems? Can this be done if I am at 4.11 ?


I would just wait it out for a new FW mod to come out, but it seems like it has been a very long time so I am guessing maybe there is nothing in the works or Sony has now covered their bases ?



I am just trying to figure this out quickly so I know whether or not I should go ahead, and update the firmware now or just leave it at 4.11.

I wouldn't want to update now, and screw myself from being able to mod in the future. Or cost me the chance to flash the chip even though I am not sure if I am very comfortable doing that.


So any input would be greatly appreciated. I was just going to get on PSN, and see if I could pick up a cheap game with the 10$ coupon thingy I have... but like I said I don't want to do anything to kill my chances for a mod.


**The thing about the flashing is that I do not understand the charts. My PS3 is -CECH-2001A- ... Does that mean CECHA or ?? Looking at both guided/wiki it is a bit unclear. Wouldnt want to make mistake.

there wont be a solution for software downgrading a 4.11 ps3 in near futur
maybe in a few years
and yeah... when you are able to soft downgrade 4.11 i guess 4.31 would also be able to soft downgrade since the keys are (i think) the same

you need a hardware flasher/downgrade service to get back on ofw 3.55
your ps3 is downgradeable down to 3.40

and your ps3 is CECH-2001A that doesnt mean that its CECHA its an CECHA when it says its an CECHA xD

slim models always have CECH-(thousand)(A/B)
PHAT have CECH(letter)(region code)
ultra slim does i think have CECH-4000

youre right i looked for 2.5k models

Hardware downgrade is the only thing probably. I would recommend finding someone who would downgrade the system for you, if you are inexperienced. It's usually rather cheap and for a few bucks they will do all the modding for you as well.

Good idea Thresh, I am trying to look around a bit. I emailed a few places that work on PS3 bu avn't hada reply back.

I am in Syracuse, NY. Anyone know a guy ? hehe

What is the going rate for a downgrade/mod anyways, any clue ?
