@CaptainCPS-X will people with arcade sticks be able to get back to menu from in-game ie without the need for L3 and R3 buttons?

mrmura:

No, you dont have to have RetroArch 0.9.8.1 installed before hand. Always have your ROMs checked out (if you can) with Final Burn Alpha for Windows. That way you know 100% they will work. You might also not have it configured right to find the roms folder. Using the default folder location that FBA RL indicates on the read me.txt should help.

Yes, I use a custom arcade joystick for my fighting games. I use a MC Cthulhu PCB inside my joystick. The rest are Happ control Perfect 360, and Happ pushbuttons. The case was custom made for me by Mikes Arcade Cabinets. I'm right handed on the joystick. So, I will have to re-map FBA RL buttons for my joystick and especially the options buttons.

I would not want a change in the combination of buttons to access the menu in the game, playing in an arcade fightstick it can happen action accidentally as happened in fbanext, my tip is that you add the select button in combination if you do! I use this:

Yeah a macro, like select + Triangle. I already have a combo button of select + Start to act as the PS Home button.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will work on that as soon as possible

Btw, I been silent but I been working on the next version, I just don't want to release something that has incomplete features or bugs.

Another thing is that I was downgrading a few PS3s from 4.30 to Rogero CFW 4.30 the past 2 days, so I haven't been working full-time on FB Alpha RL, but I just finished recently, so tomorrow I'll be back to code and eventually release this next version with many new features

SeeYa!

Im back to report more WIP!

First of all let me quote the list of changes already done to the upcoming FB Alpha RL v1.01:

Changelog:
----------------------------------------------------

1.01 (February 8, 2013)

- Added new Options Menu
- Added module to save / read settings to "FBA_RL.ini"
- Added Option to configure 12 custom directories to scan for
ROMs, you decide where you want FB Alpha RL to look for ROMs .
- Added Option to set Input presets for all systems, you just
need to do this once.
- Added Option to Automatically Create basic Input preset configurations
for all supported systems.
- Added Option to enable / disable Auto Aspect Ratio selection on game launch.
- Added Game System Filter (Press L1 / R1 to toggle game system filters).
- Added ROM(s) re-scanning module (Press [START] to re-scan ROM(s)).
- Rewrote FB Alpha RL to make better use of PSGL, now it
supports a better GUI based on texture rendering
(Thanks to Squarepusher/Twinaphex for the tips).
- FB Alpha RL will check for important directories needed
by RetroArch on launch, and will create them as needed.
If you have the official RetroArch installed and it have
missing directories as well for some reason, they will be
created to make sure everything work fine.
- Incremented number of displayed games.
- Added quick list navigation by pressing L2 / R2.
- Added Analog Stick support to navigate lists.
- Added Main menu with various useful items.
- Added ZIP Info feature (press [ ] to view ZIP info).
- Updated FB Alpha (libretro) core.
- (FBA core) Fixed graphic problems in CPS-1 driver.
- (FBA core) Fixed Diagnostic Menu Lock-up in some games.
- Added Screenshot feature (press and look in Photo XMB column).
- Improved application core overall and fixed some bugs.
- FB Alpha RL will not process WIP drivers from now on
until compatibility is better(Megadrive, PCE, SNES).
Now this is the format of the new FBA_RL.ini (configuration) file that will be created the first time you run the application:

Code:
// --------------------------------------------------------------------------
// FB Alpha RL Options
// --------------------------------------------------------------------------
// If you edit this manually, make sure you do so properly, any malformation
// of this configuration will force the application to generate a new one, resulting
// in the loss of any previous configuration you made.

texture_options:"/dev_hdd0/game/FBAL00123/USRDIR/cores/borders/default/OPTIONS_MENU.PNG"
Here you have some screenshots of the new Options menu:

The Game list module has been updated with lot of stuff as well, and now as is mentioned on the change log, you will now be able to Filter games by System (CPS1, CPS2, NEOGEO, etc...) for easier navigation .

The file browser is a WIP at this moment, but in a couple of days everything will be all working and ready for a beta release.

I am currently setting up the whole MAME 148 romset in place to make some extensive tests and see how the application handle the monster game list xD. Of course FB Alpha doesn't support all of them but it will definitely put some stress on the scanning process, so let's see.

I'll be in touch soon with more details! thank you for your patience to those waiting for the next release.

SeeYa!
