Hi everyone,

Bad news i'm afraid. The provider has not been able to recover my virtual machine. They are going to provision me a new server, I will need to rebuild the server and restore from backup.

Hang tight.

The wiki produces txt dumps at ps3devwiki.com/dumps/ for your convenience, these however, are not full dumps. The wiki weighs ~40gb in total. The latest backup I have is from the 5th, just before the incident and contains all files and full database dump.

It's hosted with VPS6.NET, sure not the most reliable provider in the world, but they work just fine. Since I maintain offsite backups myself, redundancy and high-availability for such a small site does not seem paramount. Where since I rely on ad's alone to pay the hosting bills cheap is important.

Sorry it's down, but get a dedicated box and do FULL off-site backups regularly and keep at least two copies. Virtual Servers are crap and your host apparently didn't even have the space to back yours up. Also, I lost my entire network of sites due to burning it on a single BD-RW. I should of used two. Dedicated servers aren't that much, but require you to setup your environment unless the host offers a pre-built one which are generally based on generic MS/Linux templates that are not tweaked right and are slow. Just format the damn thing and start from scratch; then I guess upload your 40GB.

I use website copier. I loose some of the formatting when the wiki is not up, but it's fully navigable offline. it helps when the wiki goes down and you need something fast. But I would not rely on it as a permanent solution as the wiki is always changing.

Use one that supports differential backups.

Thank you for your input, but I think you may have a different view of what's happening here. I'm not just some random kid with a bunch of cheap VPS's, I'm a Computer Professional with real qualifications and experience.

Be it dedicated or virtual the difference is purely cost, it has absolutely no bearing on the quality of service. My server was built by myself from a vanilla light net build of CentOS specifically for the MediaWiki installation that is the ps3devwiki.

I chose an unmanaged service specifically because I wanted to maintain my own backups, which may I remind you, are perfectly intact. Never trust the hosting company to maintain proper backups for you.

High-Availability, load balancing or any of those fancy terms people like to throw around really have no place on a simple web hosting box, built to serve a small web application to around 8000 visitors a day. What you see at the moment is a simple but effective disaster recovery plan working its way through.

Be patient.

Server is provisioned. I have begun the transfer process so the site should be live with in a couple of hours if I have the time available.

The TTL on the domain is 4 hours, so you will be able to access via http://192.210.200.213/ until it resolves once I bring it back up.

And there we have it, The site is back up and running as of now.

http://192.210.200.213/ or http://www.ps3devwiki.com/

Please bear with me while I configure remaining services such as object caching, imagemagick and a few little other bits but it should be pretty much ready to go.
