My PS3 is so Screwed Up! I Get a Black Screen When I Load a Game...
So the morning after I finished downloading Armored Kill for BF3, I went on my PS3 so I could play some Battlefield 3, but I noticed something wierd, the disk icon for it wasn't appearing on the XMB, I checked to see if the disc itself was physically inside the PS3 and indeed it was, this really confused me and pissed me off as I have been waiting all night for Armored Kill to download so I could finally mess around with the AC-130 and a couple of friends it's pretty convenient how my PS3 just self destructs today.
![]() The next day I take it to a local gaming shop where they say that they fix consoles and other stuff, I brought it to them, told the guy that I will probably be needing a new blu-ray drive for my PS3, he then goes on to say that he'll open it up and take a look and see if that actually is the problem. So I leave the PS3 with them and go walk around the mall for a bit then when it's time to come home, I go back to the shop to find out what's wrong with my PS3, the guy says that it's possibly the lens and it'll cost $100 to fix, I was taken a back as I didn't think spending $100 to get such an old piece of technology working again was a wise decision, so I took my PS3 back and went home. I fired it up to play some games I have downloaded from the PSN Store a couple of weeks ago only to find out that once I selected them, the screen would remain 'blank' (it's black) and then it would go completely black and just stay that way, this really puzzled me as I played a couple of games on my PS3 after finding out that it wouldn't detect disks anymore in order to rule out the possibility that my CPU/GPU were broken as well, but the games on my hard drive worked fine before I brought it in to get 'fixed'. I really have no idea what to do anymore, any advice/help at all would be greatly appreciated! |

Maybe the shop you took the ps3 to has left the blu ray drive unplugged from the main board...I'm just guessing here...never heard of this problem b4.

Perhaps that could be the case, I also noticed that the blue light indicator stopped flashing like it normally would after I took it to the shop, what could that mean?
I have one of those 'fat' PS3's by the way, I think it came with either a 40 or 60GB HDD (I've upgraded it to a 80GB so I can't remember). |

I'll have to pickup some Torx drivers then so I can open up my PS3, anything else I should look out for or think about?

torx?, maybe one?, the rest are just normal screws. (cross)
you probably will get that torx out with a normal screwdriver that will fit.

Afterwards, go into recovery mode and do a rebuild database and restore filesystem. This should fix your issue. If indeed your laser is burnt out, you would still get a disc icon in the top right corner of your screen. If it isn't there at all, try this method.
