Dead Space 3 Exploit Reported - Free In Game Items

I haven't played Dead Space 3 yet, but the idea of having to buy in game items as i progress is kind of lame.

It seems players of the game have found a way to get in game items for free, here is a quote from the source:

Exploits in the bestselling video game Dead Space 3 are allowing users to obtain in-game items for free.

The cheats could prove costly to the title's publisher, Electronic Arts (EA), which has introduced a system that charges users cash for extra equipment in the sequel.

The move has proved controversial with some, since the title already costs about £40.

EA has the ability to issue an update to remove the workarounds.

However, a spokesman said the firm had no comment on the issue.

Dead Space 3 is an action-horror third-person shooter set on an alien planet.

Part of its challenge is locating scarce in-game resources needed to create ammunition and medical packs in order to tackle the title's monsters.

In previous games in the franchise, the user needed to find credits in order to buy upgrades. However, the new game introduces real-money micro-transactions as a way of allowing players to add equipment faster than would otherwise be possible.

The bugs were first reported by the news site GameFront, which subsequently posted a video online showing how they worked.

Ethical dilemma
The bugs were first reported by the news site GameFront, which subsequently posted a video online showing how they worked.

One involves the player's character walking into a specific building, picking up an item, walking out - and then returning to find a new item has appeared. This can be repeated an unlimited number of times.

The other requires the user to go to a different destination, to pick up an item and then to select save and quit before returning to the game.

Within hours of the discoveries, news of the exploits spread to other gaming sites and social media networks.

Several users commented that they did not believe using the cheats was unethical because Dead Space 3 had already been priced as a "premium title".

And theres why they will carry on doing it.

The thing is, they are smart. They know Dead Space 3 is a game for hardcore gamers and hard core gamers will want to play dead space 3 regardless of having to buy items. I cant picture game companies doing that to casual games.

But this has officially made me despise EA

Yeah its lame, the devs say you don't need to buy any in game items to complete the game, but its still lame all the same, if they gave the game away for free, i could understand charging for in game content, but charging £40+ for a game, then doing that, is greedy.

You don't have to spend money if you don't want to you can still find the credits and nodes the money is just if you want the item faster instead working upto the amount of credits needed. I believe that's how it is.

That's nice, I noticed items had respawned after I reloaded a game but I didn't keep a check on my crafting materials to see if they were at the same amount and when I last saved. Guess this confirms it though.

I've also beat the game on impossible difficulty (not the hardcore mode though) and the resources for crafting and upgrading are easily found, just use the scavenger bots and do optional missions really. I think ration seals are used to purchase the online resource packs instead of real money but I don't know what you get for the amount. Suffice to say, offline on CFW, game was no problem (but I did platinum the first 2 games so yeaaahh).

Still going to buy a legit copy when it releases on Friday for my OFW PS3 as I want to try online co-op and may as well beat hard core mode for a laugh. Paying for in game resources I won't be doing though lol

Just like all the Zynga games on Facebook. You don't NEED to buy the goodies they sell but they're more "powerful" and "useful". Guaranteed they will make loads of cash on this because people will feed their child's addiction for new toys to play with (regardless of this being an 18+ game, im more than sure children under 18 will be playing).

Very pathetic indeed. Just like releasing a game with add-on content IN the game, but you NEED to buy an unlock code to access it. Why oh why...

I remember buying Duke3d eons ago. FULL GAME right there. I buy an add-on pack? I get my money's worth with a psuedo full game. (also Redneck Rampage and... a game with the name "Max" in it... he carried a double barrel shotgun? Around the time of Redneck Rampage and Duke3d, Postal, Blood2, etc ohhh my.... memories....)

Preaching to the choir though, as I know you're well aware of all this too

Well, yeah....regardless.... I love the Dead Space games. But just because they are offering items for sale doesn't mean I won't buy the game or items in game. There still are some smarter people left

Just need my plasma cutter and line-gun and I'm good :D

Now... if we have to pay extra to play co-op.. I will lose my shit.

Your belief is wrong. There are no credits or nodes in the game. There's just 6 different resources you find scattered throughout the game. Scrap metal, tungsten, and the other 4 I forgot.

I'm confused on what you guys are talking about with buying money, as in your real actual money to buy stuff in the game. I didn't see that anywhere and I just beat the game yesterday. I didn't really check the downloadable content stuff while in game, just at the main menu. From what I saw, 4.99 to make your 3 scavenger bots scavenge faster, 4.99 for a pointless thing to make the scavenger bots talk, another for some pointless and unneeded suits, 2 different weapons packs I could buy, and other stuff that didn't really have any good use.

Just use the exploit people found or use Medo's code for max resources on gain or however it was triggered.

For the game I'm more concerned about messed up saving. On my room mate's normal OFW PS3, the game is fine and perfect. On my kmeaw 3.55 PS3, it doesn't make a save profile, it just says "Save failed" for no reason. I looked around and people are already mentioning that to EA. I thought maybe it was not enough space on my PS3. I deleted 2GB of crap I no longer needed, and tried again only for it to still say "Save failed". If I can't make a profile, I can play but can't save.

I'd recommend never buying a used copy of the game then, or you will need to buy a code if the previous owner already used it.
