one other thing, when you insert the disk and take it out, is the disk came out in the same position as you insert it (Disk did not spin at all)?

Tried switching the ribbon cable around, no change!
Disk is in the exact same position, I took it apart to inspect it and the motor does not move at all at any time and I think the laser only moves if I force it in the upwards position so it goes back to the middle, not sure whether it has moved on its own but I do hear a little bit of noise when inserting a disk. Edit: Struggling to take the 4 screws off from the laser mechanism (the big ones with fairly small cross). Also struggling to take off the last screw from the logic board. >-< So I can't really try for a different laser mechanism but the logic board being stuck there isn't too much of an issue if I were to get a new one of those. Edit again! I finally got the PS3Jig to start up correctly on the PSP, I just simply reformatted the memory stick, not sure why it was the only thing that wouldn't run on my memory stick (to be fair, my memory stick was a complete mess because I haven't used my psp for years lol). Hmm..
I turn my PS3 completely off. Start my PSP connected to my PS3 in the USB port closest to the bd drive. I run PS3Jig. It has 3 lines, then it says USB registered/started and such. Then I turn the PS3 on by the power, then press the power button then eject straight after. Then the PSP requests jig challenge, receives it, calculates response, sends response, then displays "Done". But.. my PS3 doesn't turn itself off as it should. :l??? |

Make sure to remove the Power Cord from the back of the PS3 and again make sure you are on 5.50 GEN D3 ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************

if they ever exist, personally i think it hard to believe that these ic's that are for the married part just die, if there's a fault it's because power is missing on the board....
i think i should add a disclaimer.

I already tried both versions of the PS3Jig several times, unfortunately they both behave the same.
I'm 100% positive I'm on 5.50 GEN-D3, I re-flashed it after formatting just to make sure too. I have been removing the power cable from the PS3, I then insert the PSP USB into the USB port closest to the bluray drive, then I run PS3Jig and wait for it to complete the USB thing, then I plug the power cable back into the PS3 and switch it on to stand-by. Then I press the power button followed by the eject button (at varying speeds). The PSP shows that it's finished with the jig challenge and stuff which causes the monitor that is displaying the PS3 to flash grey a little but then it just boots normally without restarting and shows the controller connection dialogue. Only thing I'm not too sure about is the fact that it additionally shows "Unknown USB Device" in the top-right while it's on the controller connection dialogue. Is it normally possible to get into FSM by this method with a faulty logic board? I just want to narrow down my options to be sure about what is causing the issue, i'd rather buy either: New logic board or new laser or E3 dongle rather than buying them all. Would the PS3Jig likely work if the logic board wasn't faulty..? And if I instead try an E3 dongle, is that a more reliable method of getting to the FSM? Thanks~! I guess something wrong with the USB port or cable
change the USB Cable and try again

I've previously used the same USB port to get package files onto my PS3 so I don't think it's that. I have tried the other 3 ports though with no success.
And I'm not sure it would be the cable either because I have no issues using it to transfer files from my PC and such. I have no other working cable to test with. I'm leaning towards having to buy a logic board/e3 dongle. But then I'm concerned that it may also be the lens because I get no flashing from it at all when a disk is inserted yet it still moves to middle if it's been manually moved up.. would a faulty logic board cause this? I'm not sure whether the lens and the mechanism which moves the lens are powered by the same cable or something. |

before you do anything you could verify if there's power going to the logic board.
if you disconnect the big ribbon cable and only have the 4wire cable plugged into the mainboard then you should measure 12V to ground on point 1, and 5V to ground on point 2. also you have to be sure the big ribbon is ok. (no damaged traces), one bad trace will give you a non working drive....

I don't have anything to use which measures voltage for that? Though I saw something which can on ebay but it's like £6..
Logic boards are about £5 on Ebay, I don't mind spending that much just to test it. And can get cable replacements for <£2 if necessary. Hmm.. Cheapest bd drive without logic board is £30, so £35 spent if it's more than just the logic board causing issues.. I think I'll go this route just in case it's the lens as well, because I can't seem to remove the screws for the lens mechanism. >-< Plus, the cheapest lens mechanism I found is like £20 so it's not much of a saving. Then there's a chance I'd additionally have to get an E3 card reader.. can't find anywhere that sells them and I've heard most places that did sell them would mention that they're shipping from the UK but shipped from HK instead and delivery time could take some time.. Though I dunno.. not sure whether the issue with my PS3 not restarting after the PS3Jig is due to the faulty bd drive or the PS3Jig itself. |
