well my ps3 has a disk read prob for 3 years now....my wife now uses it as a netflix box...and now we have a new tv that has netflix ...was just wondering what is the best thing to do ....besides give it away!!! its an older ps3 phat only has 2 usb's in the front and was never backwords compatable to the ps2 games and is at s/w 4.31

Parts or buy a new ps3 blue ray drive and remarry it to the motherboard.

if your just guna give it away , I will take it and fix it up im always looking for a project

was lookin into modding it some way, to play games of a hdd....softmoded my wii (disk read error also)and now plays back ups off a hdd and modded my psp 1001 (disk read error to)now I use the memory stick

you can mod it, just not softmod. your guna have to spend about 100$ for a flasher or find someone in this forum in your area that can do the service.

The playback rate of games without disk in the drive is not guna be as high as if you had a working drive with a ps3 game in drive

seems a bit complicated .....but my buddy just gave me his ps3 phat that had the ylod and was unsuccessful in fixing it ..MB is now dead....so id like to put the dvd in mine ...can it just be swapped?
