Help with showtime and windows media player..

I used windows media player to stream to showtime. My MP4 and AVI files all work great. But when I add MKV files to windows media library they show a run time of zero seconds. And when I select the file in showtime it shuts down and returns to XMB. How can I fix this?

Yes I have that works, But it is still encoding the files before showtime plays them.

i use playon for all my media... its not free but it works like a charm - netflix, hulu, local media, cbs, nbc, syfy, food network

they have a free 14 day free trial - then you can pay 5mo / 20year / 80 lifetime licence. note: let the 14 day free trial expire and they will send you a 'last chance' email to get a lifetime license for 40$

I actually no longer have cable TV, i use playon every day and i've spent more on video games then i have this program

so yeah... guess I should explain more - its a program that runs on your PC takes the stream from multiple sourses (like hulu) transcodes it and sends it to ANY DNLA device (cell phone / ps3 / ipad / ipod / smart TV's / xbox) you can have as many devices you want connected to it - I kinda have a super computer for my home PC so I've been able to have 6 devices streaming different shows before it started lagging, (but i believe that was do to network bandwith problems at that point)

edit: note that you could theoretically install a virtualbox on your pc and run playon through the virtbox and refresh it every 14 days to get around the trial period. -though it is really time consuming

Windows Media Centre reportedly works to stream MKV without encode, haven't tried as I usually just put them on a stick

EDIT:

went to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Media streaming options in Windows 8 and allowed Showtime access. Seems to be streaming Sunday nights episode of Walking Dead (mkv) fine

last time i checked the crack was only for a spacific version of playon - which is outdated and hulu/cbs no longer works.

Because `content providers` are constantly changing their website playon is constantly having updates id estimate at saying almost every other month - note that they also add new content - as espn/amazon Vod wern't in the original releases

It is possible your talking about a different crack then me however - curious to know what crack your talking about?

xbmc was nice while it lasted - however the fact that they don't even dev for the xbox is a bit.... funny

I've never had a good experience with xbmc outside of the xbox
