Uh-oh, what did I just do?
Got my newly jailbroken PS3 inhouse yesterday, with the most recent Retroarch installed. After some trial and error (I'm a total noob) I was able to figure out both how to change cores, how to load roms from the USB, and after a while, how to make folder and subfolder on the HDD and have the roms there! Awesome! But then I tried and err'ed a bit too much... Even after I had put the roms in a designated folder on the HDD, I still had to select the directory from where the core would find the roms every single time. I was quite convinced there had to be a way to set a default folder and save myself this minor inconvinience for the future. So within the Genesis Plus GX core (my default), I chose select, and pressed R3 until I came to an option which read something along the lines of "Choose default ROM directory" or something to that effect. Do not remember the exact wording. Don't recall what was there before, but it was de facto empty just HDD" or something else comparatively non specific. So I assumed that if I here put the directory where I keep the roms for this core, the roms would show up at startup. This was evidently not among my finer ideas. Exited Retroarch to save the changes, and when I went back in, screen went black. No interface. None. No way of getting back to the XMB either, had to shut the console off to get out of the program. PS3 booted up again without problem (thank god), but same thing happened again when I tried to go back into Retroarch. Any idea what I did, and how to undo it? |

If you are having an error where it black screen and freezes everytime.
You can do one of two things 1.) Delete the .CFG file in the RetroArch Folder from multiMAN or Comgenies file manager. its located at dev_hdd0/games/SSNE10000/ location. (may have to enter a sub folder from there cant recall) if that doesnt work, 2.) then just delete from XMB and do a fresh install, not saying you did this but sometimes when you install over an older release or try to install again it will act very weird and sometimes do what you described with the freezing. Usually has to do with the CFG file. also just as an FYI roms only appear for the core selected. Example say you have SNES roms in same folder as NES. and snes9xnext core is selected only the SNES roms will appear. Last edited by STLcardsWS; 02-15-2013 at 03:40 AM. |

I'll try deleting the .cfg file when I come home from work, thanks for the tip!
While I did not do it myself, it is certainly within the realm of possibility that the newest release of Retroarch was installed on top of the previous one by the crew who did the jailbreaking for me. Regardless, I'll let you know how deleting the .cfg works. Also, thanks for the tip regarding folder, I'll try that out. I also have Retroarch on my Android device, and there all roms appears in all cores if they are located in the same folder, but I guess this is different for the PS3. Which reminds me, the backups to my Sega CD's all consist of two files .bin and .cue. Haven't tried them on the PS3 yet (screen blacked out on me before I got that far), but I couldn't get the game working in Retroarch on Android. But the .bin and .cue files appear on the screen, but the program stops when I select either. Do you happen to know how this works on the PS3? Sorry for any excessive questioning, I am very greateful for all help I've been given. |

Regarding Sega CD, the BIN file should be selected. Also be sure you have the Sega SEGA CD bios in the system folder of RetroArch (the dev_hdd0/games/RetroArch/........ location). The name of that bios is case senative "bios_CD_U" for North America "bios_CD_E" for Europe "bios_CD_J" for Japan You can also use ISOs on RetroArch (for Sega CD only) but the background music doesn't work in that format. You can set up the roms anyway you want, with any folder structure. i advise never to ever put them in the RetroArch folder incase there is issues and you need to re-install. just to avoid accidentally deleting them. but yea only relative roms show for the core selected.(in the future there will be a mame release and those as well FBA roms will show together I'm sure. but you don't have to worry about that in this build. but just giving the heads up there )No problem at all for the help. I have used RetroArch alot tested many projects and builds. So i have a good deal of knowledge and don't mind one bit helping. But really its very simple to use. small learning curve but when you get past that your good to go. If you havent i highly suggest downloading it and reading the included readme, Alot of good info. @STLcardsWS
Thanks a lot, I am very happy to report that deleting the .cfg did the trick, it works like a charm now:-) I put all the roms in one folder under dev_hdd0, which also worked great. That is, not the Sega CD files, as I see now I need to procure a bios - but with the clues you provided, I should be able to figure it out. You're right, its not all that difficult when one gets the hang of it, and I say that as a layperson. And of course, it helps a great deal when the helpful members of this forum offers a push in the right direction! |

YET? RetroArch has always played CPS1 games,
Using the FBalpha core. It will also play CPS2 & CPS3.. If you have tried and your roms do not work you need a current romset. |
