Whats stopping us?

So I was wondering, what exactly is stopping us from running homebrew on ofw greater then 3.55?? I know if it was easy it would have been done already. I guess a second part to this question is why is a CFW required for homebrew in the first place? is it impossible to sign them? (cant get keys?) i'm just curious and I havn't seen a real explanation.

I'm no 100% sure but I believe you can't run homebrew on OFW because there is no way to install pkg files without CFW.

You can't install CFW on anything above 3.55 because 3.55 OFW contains an exploit which is used to gain full access to the PS3.

That's my watered down understanding of it all.

You answered the question yourself

Yup, it's indeed the missing private key that is stopping us.

What is a private key and where you can find it?

OK, I guess I just wasnt sure if there was an ECDSA on apps, I knew that was the limitation of CFW. and from that no, the pprivate key is not on any disc or in any ps3 as far as I understand. and it cannot be calculated like it originally was at 3.55. I really wish the was a distributed computing system capable of cracking it though...

3.55's flaw was that the random number, was not random at all but contained a fixed number, thus making it easier to get hacked (what also happened, with props to fail0verflow). $ony fixed this stupid flaw they made in the 3.55+ updates.

The only way is to find an exploit somewhere, and it's not that easy as the PSP exploits (otherwise (I bet) we would have one by now).

All we need is an exploit to get past hypervisor/supervisor....

If it will ever happen... no one knows.
