Upgrade internal hard drive, or buy an external

I curently have an 60gb internal HDD and need something bigger to store my backups. I was wondering if it would be better to upgrade the internal, or just store my backups in an external HDD ?

Also, what is the recommended size for storing a good amount of games ?

Thanks.

From what i know; few big games can only be played fron internal. Almost all games process a install into internal even if they are on external. Bigger you external is bigger your internal should be.
I managed to fit 1tera inside and i use 1 tera outside. ah, if you plan to store your game inside do another backup of them somewhere else. Just in case.

If you want to play large games you can simply split the files

I have 1TB external and 3x2TB externals. But even if you just play games from the external PSN game installs take up a decent amount of space.

I have a 300gb internal in my PS3. I also have a dedicated 1.5tb external for it. I only put game >4gb on my internal. Everything else is on the external. I also have one other 1.5tb external and another 500gb external for whatever. On my PC I have 2x 6gb/s 1.5tb internals. Plenty to go around...for now. I guess that's a lot of useless extra info. I still find it more convenient to have the extra space on an external as I don't use FTP because it's too slow.

I completely agree. With small kids and dirty hands, The less disc's touched the better. My $2 ps3 game works for disc icon, So it breaks only out 2 bucks.
