My first question is how did you power the flasher by USB? When I plug it in my laptop, it doesn't light up. I am assuming I must have to solder something on the flasher?

the flasher needs 3,3V and usb is 5V?

and by the way can usb handle the power?, you are not only giving power to the nor but also several other ic's. (if you keep the nor on the mainboard...)

and how hard is it to build your own 3,3V supply anyway.

*hint* voltage regulator ,and you're right usb 500mA max

but usb would be enough in standalone mode aka with e3 nor onboard flashing
remove nor from e3 place tsop socket voila standalone

handy if you want to dump a nor from a dead mobo for example
